Select a text from the course outline (a text assigned to this course) and think about how women are represented in it.

Drawing from key pastoral elements and literary devices used in the text, make an argument about how women are depicted in the text. Are they victimized or condemned? Are they symbols for the natural world or are they depicted more realistically? Do they have their own personalities and wills or are they stripped of power and voice?

Make sure your essay relates the pastoral elements of the text to how women are being represented.

Write a 1000-word argumentative essay (not a comparative essay) on your focused topic.

Introduction (c. 100 words), worth 5 pts

3 Body Paragraphs (c. 265 words per paragraph), worth 10 pts per paragraph (total 30 pts)

Conclusion (c. 100 words) 5 pts

Formatting: Times new roman 12pt, double-spaced, MLA citation style.

Use the same formatting template as provided in the essay outline guidelines (i.e. information (name, date, etc. on the left-hand-side and centered titles).

This assignment will be grading on a total of 40 pts.
