Write a 3 paragraph persuasive speech on: How advertising can mess with our minds?

2020 English 4: persuasive speech using rhetorical devices.

You will be writing a persuasive speech. Included in the speech should be several

instances of rhetorical devices. Try to emulate Churchill or Gandhi in format/style.

The speech can be either serious or light-hearted in tone. It ​SHOULD NOT be satire​. (You are not to mock anyone or anything. The purpose is just to get the audience to agree with

you.)

The rhetorical devices we have focused on are

1. Parallelism* 2. Loaded language (positive and negative)* 3. Repetition (of key ideas) 4. Allusion 5. Dramatic alternative

Your speech ​must include​ devices # 1-2, starred (*) above.

IN ADDITION, ​your speech should contain​ ​at least one other rhetorical device​. (See # 3-5.)

Further, your speech must include ​information from a reliable source​ that is ​cited in your speech ​at least once.

Your WRITTEN (typed) speech will be graded on your​ skillful handling of the rhetorical devices you used, ​as​ ​well as the​ flow of your ideas/organization, maintenance of your tone/support, use of cited material ​and ​grammar/usage. ​This is​ worth a test grade. See attached rubric.

You are​ required ​to fill out a​ reflection sheet ​that ​will be graded.

Your written(typed) speech is due: Monday, March 9. ​It must be submitted by​ 2:05 pm ​on​ Monday.

If you submit your speech by 11:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, you will receive 3 extra credit

points.

For an extra test grade, you will present your speech ​in class​ on March 11. The SPOKEN version will be worth up to 49 points. Time limit: aim for 2-4 minutes (no longer than 7).
