This team project is designed to give students prac4cal experience in applying the concepts and tools taught in this course. Following this template, students will analyze a current situa4on and apply advanced concepts and tools to determine prac4cal alterna4ves.

The team has been given a facility planning problem requiring a new facility plan. This has been provided by the Instructor. Students will collect data, apply facility planning tools, and develop logical alterna4ves supported by data. ACer comple4ng the project, the student team will prepare a presenta4on intended to guide the stakeholder to a successful decision.

The Table of Contents is an outline of the project requirements and should help guide you through the assignment. Slight adjustments can be made to this outline, but it is suggested the team review any major changes with the Instructor.

The team goal for this assignment is to prepare a thoughFul and intelligent applica4on of the facility planning process. It will also con4nue to develop your skills in teamwork. DO NOT USE BULLET POINTS (unless cri4cal), YOUR DISCUSSION MUST BE CONVERSATIONAL TO EVALUATE YOUR EXPRESSIVE ABILITY.

The Team Project Grading Rubric is provided to show how the team will be graded on this assignment. Use this as a guideline for your wri4ng and analysis.

1. Project Descrip/on

In this sec4on you will present an overview of the project. When you are finished with

this project, how would you describe to your audience (the owners of the bicycle

company) what was asked of the team, and how you decided to approach a solu4on. It

should be a couple of paragraphs that explain the project.

2. Facility Requirements Data

In this sec4on you will analyze and define the cri4cal data needed to determine a facility

design. This will include a descrip4on of the product; what are the processing

requirements (work elements and sequence); and what are the schedule requirements

(needed to determine how many people, machines, storage, etc.). This was primarily

covered in Chapter 2.

3. Analysis of Alterna/ve Layouts

In this sec4on you will develop alternate layouts using the theory and tools in Chapters 3

thru 10. Besides considering layouts that support the flow of product, you will also

consider Personnel Requirements in Chapter 4 and storage in Chapter 7. You will apply

both heuris4c tools and computer tools to create op4mized layout solu4ons. The

outputs you created from these tools will be shown in this sec4on.

4. Selec/on of Alterna/ve Layouts

In this sec4on you will design at least two alterna4ve layouts based on your previous

analysis per Chapter 11. These designs will include floor plans that consider personnel,

storage and u4lity requirements.

5. Conclusions and Recommenda/ons

In this sec4on you will discuss the differences between the alterna4ve layouts in the

previous sec4on. Explain the posi4ve and nega4ve aspects of each over the other(s).

Finally, you will provide a recommenda4on. Your recommenda4on can be one choice, or

you can explain why this is not possible and the final decision is up to the owners you

are working for. Chapter 11 will provide guidelines for this.

6. References

Reference your research documents. You can use “Cite Your Sources” from the CSUN

library website. It is not common for engineering students to use references, but this is

a chance to learn or refresh your understanding of this technique.

This informa4on can be found on the Oviad library website, https://library.csun.edu/.

7. Appendix

Include all research and background data in this sec4on. In the body of the report you

will reference this data.
