Course Identified MSN Essential Prompts: MSN Essential I: Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities. Recognizes that the master’s-prepared nurse integrates scientific findings from nursing, biopsychosocial fields, genetics, public health, quality improvement, organizational sciences for the continuous improvement of nursing care across diverse settings (AACN, 2011, p.4).

MSN Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership. Recognizes that organizational and systems leadership are critical to the promotion of high quality and safe patient care. Leadership skills are needed that emphasize ethical and critical decision making, effective working relationships, and a systems-perspective (AACN, 2011, p. 4).

MSN Essential III: Quality Improvement and Safety. Recognizes that a master’s- prepared nurse must be articulate in the methods, tools, performance measures, and standards related to quality, as well as prepared to apply quality principles within an organization (AACN, 2011, p. 4).

MSN Essential IV: Translating and Integrating Scholarship into Practice. Recognizes that the master’s-prepared nurse applies research outcomes within the practice setting, resolves practice problems, works as a change agent, and disseminates results(AACN, 2011,p. 4-5).

COURSE TITLE Evidence Based Practice in the Health Profession

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to:

1. Differentiate between the characteristics of qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, meta-analysis, and meta-synthesis methodologies.

2. Critically analyze research studies and evidence-based practice as they apply to the interdisciplinary health professions.

3. Appraise the scholarly value of facility-based initiatives to incorporate evidence-based practice into nursing.

4. Identify clinical, educational, administrative and legal practice problems which may be addressed through the use of evidence-based practice implementation.

5. Create and design a roll out process for initiation of discipline specific evidence-based practice problem.

6. Compare various statistical testing as appropriate choices for analysis of data results.

7. Develop a letter of inquiry based on the EBP project for potential underlying sources.

8. Evidence critical thinking skills in class discussion, written work, online assignments, and oral/visual/voice-enhanced presentations.
