Corporate Governance and Leadership: Chapter 10

Ford Motor Company is led by William Clay Ford Jr. and Jim Hackett. They have an extremely large corporate governance team in addition to their two main leaders of the company. There are over twelve pages of results on the Ford corporate governance section of their website. However, this makes sense considering how large Ford is as a company.

On their website, Ford tells customers, shareholders, and anyone else that they can submit their concerns either anonymously or confidentially. Ford explains that concerns with their internal controls or auditing matters will be relayed to the audit committee. Communications related to governance will be relayed to the Nominating and Governance Committee. Finally, all other communications will be referred to other areas of the company for handling as “appropriate under the facts and circumstances outlined in the communications.” Ford’s corporate governance and leadership team emphasize having a clean and sustainable supply chain. Ford emphasizes making sure the countries they do business with benefit from the deal, as opposed to simply using a less developed country to their advantage and profit.  Ford has developed a policy letter that they have named “Ford Policy Letter 24: Code of Human Rights, Basic Working Conditions, and Corporate Responsibility” This addresses workplace issues such as working hours, child labor, forced labor (including human trafficking), as well as discrimination, freedom of association, and health and safety.
