Individual Essay

You have been asked to write an article for International Journal of Project Management. [More information such as “Guide for Authors” can be found from https://www.journals.elsevier.com/international-journal-of-project- management]. An article may:
• be of a theoretical nature
• be based on practical experience
• report a case study situation or
• report experimental results.
The prime requirements are that it should be:
a. directly relevant to project management; and b. be within the scope of the module coverage.
You may choose any of the following themes. If you wish to propose a separate theme which is not given below, it is also acceptable as long as it captures the essence of Project Management (PM). You must contact the lecturer for further clarification. 1. Impact of PM on business performance 2. Relation between PM and Project Success Rates 3. Comparisons between PM and General Management 4. Green PM: Challenges and Opportunities 5. Implementation of PM in SMEs 6. Manging the Project Triangle 7. PM and Change/Stakeholder/Risk* Management (*select one) 8. PM and Organisational Influence 9. Application of PM: theory vs practice 10. Any self-proposed topics (approval needed) The essay should be within 2,000-2,500 words in length (excluding the cover page, reference list and appendix if any). Abstract (up to 150 words) must outline the purpose, scope and conclusions of the essay, and at least two keywords. It is important that the abstract should be very clear and understandable to those whom English is not their native language. The

abstract should explain why the essay is important to those who may not necessarily be in that particular field. Figures and Tables should be of clear quality and they should be numbered consecutively with Roman Numerals. The titles for both figures and tables should be provided. References must be in Harvard Style and carefully checked for completeness, accuracy and consistency. More details about referencing can be found on MyPlace. For Journals in the reference list: surname, initials, (year), article title, journal title, volume number (Issue number), pages. Example: Nagaya, N. and Kangawa, K. (2006), Therapeutic potential of Ghrelin in the treatment of heart failure. Drugs, 66(4), 439-448. For Books in the reference list: surname, initials, (year), book title, edition, place of publication, publisher. Example: Simons, N. E., Menzies, B. and Matthews, M. (2001), A Short Course in Soil and Rock Slope Engineering. London, Thomas Telford Publishing. Note 1: You are advised to use a minimum of 10 journal articles (plus other sources, e.g. internet links, textbooks, magazines, etc) for your essay. Recently published references are recommended. Each student must submit an electronic copy of the individual essay via MyPlace (paper submission is NOT needed). Similarity check via Turnitin will be required on your essay and no more than 10% of similarity rate is expected. Any violation to the above requirements would be penalised. Note 2: All assessments should be submitted in accordance with University regulations with cover page containing essay title, full name, student registration number, programme details, date of submission, and word counts. All assessments should be submitted no later than the dates given above. Penalty of 5% per day (including weekend days) will be issued to any late submission. Extensions may be granted in two circumstances ONLY:
(i) if for medical reasons you are unable to submit a piece of work by the deadline – any such requests for an extension must be supported by a doctor’s note; or
(ii) in the case of extenuating personal circumstances – again something must be submitted in writing to support any request for an extension.
