Introduction

The Reds 1981 is a film that is based on a true-life story of two journalists who were activists. The film follows their lives and events that took place in their professional lives. It involved one journalist and a writer by the name of John Reed and a socialite who later turns to be an activist and a writer by the name of Louise Bryant. The film focuses on the two and incorporates the two with living witnesses who were interviewed about the two. The film evolves around the actual events surrounding the Bolshevik revolution after the rise of Lenin and the brutality surrounding his leadership. In its course, it reflects the extent of his wrath, always covering the bloodthirsty nature of his regime and exhibiting his willingness to hurt even those whose critics love. The main point of this movie is to exhibit the nature of Lenin’s hostile brutality and the extent to which dictators are ready to go to maintain their power.

John Reed, the activist, and journalist, met with Louise Bryant in Portland, Oregon in 1915. It was after John was heading home from a speaking engagement. At this point, Louise was a married woman. She was married to a dentist by the name of Paul Trullinger. They got attracted to each other at first sight, both sexually and physically. After they pushed, John asks Louise to go back with her to New York, where she could be a free writer and write about anything she wanted to. Louise left her husband for John. They later travelled together to Russia to write about the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. This trip changed both the lives of Louise and John (Rosenstone, 2018).

The trip impacted their lives differently as after the war, their love came to an end, and they would never see each other again. The revolution caused Russia to be an isolated nation, as Jack was the face of activism; the citizens of America wanted John eradicated. Communism in Russia was not what John and his socialist friend had thought it would be like. All these events in Russia made John Reed form the Communist Labor Party of America. All these, later on, made John Reed an iconic figure and a great man in history as he is buried at a great memorial. John Reed returned to Russia with Bryant, but his health status was inferior and died later due to kidney failure. Point of conflict is the time Louise leaves her husband to run away with John Reed in their quest for love and activism. The pursuit led to them reaching Russia a couple of times till the untimely death of John Reed (Ellis, 2018).

Conclusion

The film is a great life story that teaches about activism and love at the same time. “Be a go-getter, go for what you want,” is the moral of the story. The story enlightens about two activists who traveled the world in such of communism and rights of the people. It was during the world war 1, a time that had lots of inequality and mistreatment. The film shares a great story with a nice twist of including the interviews of their living friends by then.
