Amazon is an online producer and retailer of e-books as well as a provider of web services associated with the web. It is a firm with headquarters in Seattle. The firm is an internet-based retailer of books, music, toys, electronics among many more. (Britannica, 2019). The firm’s director Mr. Jeff Bezos noted in 2002 that the firm qualified as a technological organizational and not just a retailer. Bezos went ahead to establish Amazon Web Services (AWS) that gave data on the internet traffic patterns. Initially, AWS provided data on internet traffic together with other statistics such as website popularity among many more. Moreover, Amazon started selling kindle e-readers that aided in energizing the e-book industry. The firm went ahead to bring on board the low-cost tablets, which were referred to as Kindle Fire in the year 2012. Apart from the company’s general background, what does Amazon’s stock look like in the market? (Campbell, 2018)

In the year 2018, Amazon firm performed well with its share price hitting a maximum of over $2000. As per Yahoo Finance, the firm’s shares are worth $1,658. In September 2018, Amazon stood as the second after Apple as the firm that hit $1 trillion. Both Amazon together with Netflix were the only two FAANG stocks which ended the 2018 year with a positive territory. Facebook and Apple both ended the year in losses. (McKenna, 2019). This paper represents an analysis of the 2018 stock data for Amazon. The analysis is carried out in three main sections, first are the scatterplots representing the highest as well as the lowest stock price, histograms for the stock trading volume together with the adjusted daily closing stock price before finalizing with the descriptive analysis for the data as discussed below.

This section discusses Amazon’s scatterplot and the histograms analyzed from the 2018 stock prices data.

1. Scatter plot for the highest stock price.

For the scatter plot involving the date and the highest stock price, data involving the two variables was selected, copied and pasted in a separate worksheet. Copied data was highlighted and then a scatter plot was automatically generated indicating the days and the amount of the highest price for each day.

2. Scatter plot for the lowest stock Price

A similar procedure was used to create this scatter plot for the lowest price. The data involving the date and the lowest stock price for Amazon company was copied and pasted in a separate sheet. The two columns of values were selected and used when inserting the scatterplot shown above.

3. Histogram for the adjusted daily closing stock price.

Histogram involving adjusted daily closing stock price was created through a small process. First, an analysis tool pack was added to the excel sheet and then data analysis was selected on the Data tab. Within the data analysis, a histogram was clicked which asks the values for the input range as well as the bins. Just using the input data alone gives excel the option of using its own bins as shown below. One has to remember to check the chart output box so that there can be a histogram chart. Clicking okay gives the table as well as the chart output show below.

4. Histogram for the stock trading volume

Go to the data analysis tool, select histogram, select the data and click chart output for the above histogram to be shown once one clicks okay.

The use of the data analysis tool, clicking on descriptive statistics, clicking on the data one wants gives out the above descriptive table for adjusted close daily price. It is amazing that even each of the wanted level is clicked, it is possible to get each value for the mean, mode, median and standard deviation that are same to the ones in the descriptive table.

In finding this table above, the descriptive table, it was clear that I just had to go to data, then click data analysis before clicking descriptive data. In put range for the data was sheet one of Amazon’s data. Selecting the entire data gave the above output. Using other formulas such as mean=average of the data, median= median(data), mode= mode(data) and standard deviation was equal to= stdev.s(data) just confirmed the values in the table. They were in line with the others.
