MGMT 4251 Employee Relations Topic Paper Analysis
The Topic Paper Analysis will give you the opportunity to examine an employee relations topic or federal employment law and will allow you to practice written communication and critical thinking skills. Instructions:
1. Select ONE topic listed at the end of this document or choose a similar employee relations related topic not listed. Decide on the topic that interests you the most. You will become a subject matter expert in that area, once completing the assignment.
2. Select three credible sources (articles, books, journals, credible legal, government, university or other
official website). Please cite both course textbook and any outside sources used to complete this paper analysis. Articles may come from BusinessWeek, Harvard Business Review, HR Magazine, Business Insider, Fortune or any other credible business-related journal. Additionally, EEOC website is an excellent source of current data. You may not use Wikipedia or a Dictionary as one of the three sources.
3. Specifically, include the following: 1) Create a purpose statement with advanced organizers (take-aways /areas or supporting
points) in your first paragraph. 2) Define your topic. Why is this topic important to the human resource profession? To the
employee? 3) What are three main take-aways for human resource professionals to know regarding your
topic? These three main take-aways are your supporting points for your topic. For some topics, including statistical data (e.g., workplace violence stats, harassment claims, etc..) would help support the supporting points discussed in the paper. Be sure to cite those statistical sources.
4) What are the practical applications of this topic to the field of human resource management?
WRITE IN YOUR OWN WORDS. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT COPY AND PASTE OR QUOTE ANYTHING FROM ANY OF YOUR SOURCES. You MAY; however, copy a federal law word-for-word as that is relevant for stating in exact words to make a point about aspects of the law, regarding the case analysis. Please quote the laws if copied verbatim. If you simply copy and paste, or quote, what the author wrote on anything else, you will get a ‘0.’
