For your second essay, you are to write a persuasive "self-enhancement" piece. You are tasked with creating your own article to be published by a web magazine on the topic of goal attainment.

Your article should present your opinion regarding the goal and recommend a course of action for attainment. Engaging the audience appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos is encouraged as is considering and applying the elements of the rhetorical situation to your piece.

Topic: Motivating your audience to reach a goal and recommending a route to that goal

Purpose: The purpose of Essay 2 is to persuade your audience that you are credible and that your recommendations are valid.

Audience: Although your audience’s demographic is ultimately determined by your choice of goal, in general, consider your audience to be of a college-level reading ability and somewhat familiar with the topic.

Author: I recommend that you choose a topic on which you have expert knowledge, as it will support your ability to appeal to ethos. The topic of your research essay or a closely related topic would enable you to pull from the research material and knowledge you gained from completing the assignment.

Context: You will determine the background information that should be included in your essay to best meet your readers’ needs and to fulfil the purpose of the writing.

Genre: Although, in actuality, you will be submitting this as an essay for a college course, your hypothetical genre is a self-enhancement article for an online publication.
