Introduction

Time management refers to the process of organizing, planning and having control of specific activities that are undertaken on a day to day basis in order to increase effectiveness and be more productive (Rapp, Bachrach, and Rapp, 2013). When various tasks require being done within a specific time frame, they need to be well managed so that they are all accomplished in an effective way. Time management can help in the planning, organization, prioritization, and accomplishment of personal activities.

Background

My current personal management style is prioritization of personal activities where I consider all the activities that I need to undertake on a daily basis and prioritize which I should do based on the available time. Most of the activities require moving from one geographical location to another and therefore doing all the activities becomes a challenge due to the time wasted in traveling from one place to another. I want to improve my prioritization of activities to be based on the importance of the activities and not the time factor.

The Inefficiency in the Current Management Practice

Although the practice of prioritizing the daily tasks enables in the accomplishment of the activities, it is not effective because sometimes the movement from place to place using public means eats up the time for the activities leading to re-scheduling of the activities and ineffective accomplishment and this, in turn, affects my plans for the week. Using time management in the planning, organization, and execution of the daily activities will ensure that all the activities are done on time since there will no time wastage in moving from place to place through using a personal vehicle.

How the Choice of Concept Will Make Things Better

Time management will help me to organize the daily activities and plan them in the most convenient way they can be accomplished and will enable me to have control over the activities. The activities will not only be accomplished effectively but timely since the time limit will guide how long they take. Each activity planned will only have the limited time available within which it should be done. No time will be wasted in between the different tasks, extra time created for more tasks, and more work will be done using the least time possible. Coupled with the prioritization of activities, time management will enable me to allocate the time where it is needed most and on the tasks that will benefit me most.

The Need for Change

Daily activities need to be planned well based on their importance so that the most important activities that will have the most significant negative consequence should be done and then those that have the least negative effects are done afterward. This enables things to run smoothly and in the appropriate way. But the time available for the activities is limited so there is a problem with certain tasks using more time than they should hence lead to insufficient time for the achievement of all the planned activities. When the prioritization of the activities is used together with time management, all the activities will be done efficiently and in a timely manner. I am a student about to graduate and my parents want to buy me a car as a graduation present which I can use to travel effectively and accomplish my activities. They have asked me the choice of car I would prefer. I like Audi cars but am not decided on whether to choose from the makes available which are the 4door, 2door, or the SUV.

The choices of cars available are 2door, 4dor, and SUV. I can use all of them but they will achieve different accomplishments. The 2door be 65% effective in the accomplishment of my tasks. The 4door will be 85% effective while the SUV will be 60% effective. The 4door model is, therefore, the best choice that my parents should buy me because the benefits of using it will outweigh the costs compared to the others.

The Aspect of the Current Management Style Or That Needs to Get Better

The purpose of this time management intervention is to improve the prioritization of the daily activities so that they are not only prioritizing but also organized in a timely manner so that they are all accomplished using the available time. Prioritizing the activities without effective time management is not effective and leads to some task not being completed.

Introduction of the Change

I will plan and organize on the achievement of the daily tasks using the 4door car that my parents will buy me to help in reducing time wastage in moving from one place to another. The time saved will be allocated to the various activities. I will prioritize the activities and designate specific time frames for doing the activities and the duration each of the activities should take. Every activity will take place within the time allocated and in order of priority and they will be carried out consecutively using the car to move in the movement from place to place.

Implementing the Change

After preparation of the schedule for the activities, I will use the vehicle to carry out the tasks consecutively every day. After several days of analyzing the change, I will implement the change to become my management practice of carrying out my routine operations.

Objections I Might Encounter and Solutions

Prioritization of the tasks using time management will make it easy for me to achieve my goals but such as lack of flexibility in that due to the time allocation there is not the time for any emergency activities that may come up. To solve this the extra time that may be saved can be set aside for emergency tasks. Time management can be affected by other factors such as weather conditions which can prevent proper time management due to delays (Barrow, 2014).  And this can be solved by starting the tasks in advance to reduce the risks of delay and considering the weather in organizing and planning the tasks. It can be tiresome to drive from place to place which can be eliminated by having adequate rest before the undertaking the routine activities to ensure I have the energy to drive around and complete all the tasks. The last objection is that timely management using the car to travel may be hindered by my limited knowledge regarding the geographical settings. To solve this, I will familiarize myself with the areas and routes I need to use.

How to Measure the Performance of the Change

The effectiveness of the change implemented will be measured by the effective and timely execution of the tasks. If the activities are executed well and in a timely manner, the change is successful and vice versa. Another way is through the assessment of the process. If the process is smooth and there are no significant challenges encountered, the change is successful and vice versa. It can also be measured by the amount of time saved and the fraction of the tasks completed. If the change leads to the creation of spare time it is considered successful. If all the tasks are executed within the required time frame, the change is also considered successful and vice versa. For example on a day that I needed go to the gym, go shopping in the mall, go swimming and go to school. The change is successful if I am able to do all the activities and be satisfied with myself.
