Evaluative Essay
If there is a show that has drawn equal accolades and criticism in equal measure is the comedy series ‘Big Bang Theory’. It is a show that has morphed into the new series ‘Young Sheldon’, a show that tries to follow the childhood of the most popular character Sheldon Cooper in his young years. Perhaps, it would be imperative to mention that I have a personal liking for the movie. It is a rather confusing topic because giving an objective answer would be almost impossible because of the different preferences that people have towards the Hollywood movies. There is a reason as to why the movie has remained the most watched in the US and internationally, with an average of eighteen million viewers.
One of the major reasons is that the movie reflects the social evolution that has taken place. It is a paradigm shift on the culture of individuals. Gone are the days when geeks, intellectuals and other unique personalities were being treated as outcasts (Bourke, 2011). It is the age upon which people have come to learn that geeks such as Steve Jobs are normal people with whom they can relate to. It shows that even those people who may have understanding the social rules of interactions are still accessible and human, after all.
In an age of science, the incorporation of comedy as a way of celebrating great scientists such as Erwin Schrodinger makes the show to be relevant. It is a show that not only makes science come alive, but also uses scientific facts to amuse its audience. Does this mean that the show is fool proof? It would be absurd to assume so. However, it has a way of reflecting the innate social dynamism taking place in the US and beyond, and science is at the heart of this evolution.
