Introduction
I am a geologist specializing in metals and minerals. I think fracking should be banned because it will lead to so many geological and health problems in the long run. The hydraulic power used in the fracking process weakness the bedrock thus inhibiting natural soil formation, (Hays &Shonkoff, 2016). This means that the microorganisms living in the soil will be affected and in the long run the community may not have arable land. Also, research indicates that fracking creates fault lines through which wastewater and gases can mix with clean water, (Konkel, 2019). Therefore, it is justifiable to say that fracking will lead to water contamination. In the long run, people who use the contaminated water will develop illnesses. In Pennsylvania, fracking has been linked with an increased rate of health complications as a result of environmental degradation. For these reasons, I urge the city council of Waynesville to impose a ban on fracking.
