Let Me Introduce Myself

This assignment is used to create community in our online class. I encourage you to keep a eye out for classmates who have similar interests as these classmates could become good points of contact for when you have questions.

Step 1: due Monday, Sept 23rd, 11:59pm

Introduce yourself to your classmates!

Start your discussion by putting your name in the headline of a newspaper. Be creative or serious! :D For example, "Jennifer Ward cures the common cold!"

What's your name and pronouns?

What are you studying and what is your educational goal?

Have you taken an online class before? If so, what advice do you have for students new to online learning?

What's your favorite food or where in the world do you dream of visiting (or visiting again)?

If you're willing, share a nice photo of yourself. :)

Start your reply by greeting the student with their name.

Reply to two other students in class by asking further questions about their post, giving additional comments you have, or sharing a funny gif that seems appropriate. :)

Here's what to do

Answer each of the questions so I, your instructor, can get to know you better. (Only your instructor will be seeing this Mathography.)

1.Do you have a nickname that you'd rather be called? E.g. M instead of Mario, or Liz instead of Elizabeth. Also, if you have a pronunciation of your name that you'd like to share, please let me know! Even though your name is mostly written, I say your name in my head and I'd like to say it correctly. For example, one student was nick-named Ticia and it was pronounced "Tee-see-uh" and not "Tish-uh". You can also share your personal pronouns with me.

2.What is your goal for college? What degree are you seeking?

3.Where have you struggled in math? succeeded in math?

4.What do you expect from your instructor in this online class? What are your expectations of this class?

5.What sort of "stuff" do you have going on this term -- is a baby expected? are you going through a divorce? does your mom have cancer? did you start a new night shift job? do you travel 5 days a week for work? Only share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. :)

6.Is there anything else you want to share with me that can help make this class better for you?
