2.3 Assignment. Proposal for Current-Team Development

Getting StartedMove Forward

In this assignment, you will write a proposal to the leader of your team with a suggestion for how to move the team forward. This is a practical assignment that could be used in your organization tomorrow. If you are the leader of the team, write the proposal as if you are presenting it to the rest of the team, helping them to “get on board” with the idea.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

· Recommend one way in which the team you are currently on can move forward in team development.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Review the Getting Started section of the workshop.

3. Review Discovering Leadership (Middlebrooks et al., 2020) Chapter 12, especially pages 312 and 313.

4. Review  Using the Stages of Team Development(new tab)  by Judith Stein.

5. Review The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni

6. Address the following assignment requirements in a three-to-four-page paper:

a. Title page

b. An introductory paragraph writer to the instructor that not only introduces the paper’s content, but also identifies the team you will be referring to, who is on the team, and your role on the team.

c. After the introductory paragraph, write the paper as if you are writing a proposal to the leader of the team. “Dear Mr./Ms/Mrs./Dr. So and So…”

d. Identify either where you see your team at in the team development stages or the dysfunction that is plaguing your team.

e. Explain the benefit that will come from moving your team to the next stage of development or addressing the dysfunction.

f. Propose a way forward for your team. Perhaps it is a focused meeting that occurs regularly to address the need to move to the next stage or to address the dysfunction (What would happen in this meeting? How often would it occur?). Maybe it is a retreat (What would you discuss? What would the agenda be?). Or you could come up with your own idea that you think would be most impactful for your team.
