Introduction

More often than not, the things that a person encounters in their early years tend to have an impact on their future either negatively or positively. The past acts as a foundation when it comes to the future of most people concerning what they choose to take part in or to avoid. For instance, a child who grows up in an abusive marriage may decide never to get married in their future. The decision is reached after observing marriage for some years but still doesn’t see any good thing that comes from it. The child’s perception of marriage gets stained at a tender age. When the individual is of age to settle down and start a family, they opt not to because nobody can convince them that one bad marriage doesn’t mean that relationships are wrong altogether. On the other hand, an individual who has seen a happy married looks forward to settling down in the future. When they get married, they tend to sort out the differences that may arise because they know that marriage is meant to work despite the challenges.

The past and the future involves restoring what has been done in the past and continuing to follow it or evading it by taking an opposite direction on the way things are done with the hope of getting different and better results. Therefore, the past influences the future in one way or the other and the two can never be separated. It is essential to be at peace with the past if one hopes and aspires to have a smooth future. The people who attempt to escape from their past have a hard time coping with the events that acquire in the future. Accepting the past even if it had an adverse outcome gives an individual the opportunity to make better and sound decisions in the future. Moreover, we should always remember that we are humans and human beings are bound to make mistakes from time to time. The lesson in the error is what counts in the future as it determines how the past shapes our present and more significantly, our future.
