Background/Required Reading/REQUIRED References:

In Information Assurance, telecommunications, networks, and Internet Security are essential. Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) promotes interoperability across different types of network devices. Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) allows this interconnectivity. Security services— authentication, access control, data confidentiality, data integrity, nonrepudiation, and logging—are needed to protect networks from attack. Data network types include local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and the Internet, intranets, and extranets. Devices used for network security include routers, firewalls, and intrusion detection and prevention systems. Virtual private networks (VPNs) provide a kind of tunnel through the Internet that use IP security (IPSec) to perform encryption and authentication to address the lack of security on IP-based networks.

The origin of networks was the DARPA Net funded by the US Defense Department. From this work the TCP IP framework was developed. Initially this was a private network for the military and universities and then expanded to include for profit activities and became called the Internet

Assignment:

Write a 6-page paper, to include introduction, body, conclusion, addressing the following scenario in your paper:

Discuss how the structure of the TCP IP framework has enabled the expansion of the Internet into a worldwide network. Discuss issues with this network. Is it big enough? Are enough IP addresses for all? What is being done under IPV6?

Use information from the any good quality resources that you can find. Please cite all sources and provide a reference list at the end of your paper.
