Marking
Make sure you are answering the question, the entire question and only the question
Presentation 5% will be marked hard on English expression
Research 10% most have done fairly well here on literature – other forms e.g. ABS stats to prove the argument
Technical Accuracy & Understanding 15% this will require that you demonstrate an understanding. Inaccuracies will be marked down (heavily)
Referencing
Follow the published guidelines more closely
Identify direct quotations clearly (per the guidelines)
Ensure the bibliographic referencing is correct.
Ensure web based references include the current URL and the date sourced (no need if it is a journal)
Citations – if you make a statement of fact or assertion (see next slide)
Try to use tertiary sources (peer reviewed material) before sourcing less credible material. If you can’t find a credible source for a specific item, perhaps it doesn’t make the final cut.
Plagiarism – has become a big issue (advised by school taken seriously & we have software to detect)
Rigorous engagement with the literature
Some presented entire paragraphs without a single citation, which presented as their own observations rather than a critical analysis of the key findings of the articles.
Others were overly descriptive and not sufficiently analytical
Proof reading
Many papers contained rudimentary spelling errors
Take care with English expression
English context – e.g. ridiculous
Family v given name e.g. John (given) Martin (family) v Xi (family) Jinping (given)
Answer all of the question & only the question Avoid “my opinion” or “my point of view”
Dot points are not best practice
