Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to give you a chance to explore how environmental and

biological influences interact, by taking a look at transgenerational/intergenerational trauma in

indigenous communities.

1. Access 3 academically-based sources (if you’re unsure, feel free to send me the article/website

2. In your paper, answer the following questions:

a. In one paragraph, summarize Canada’s history with respect to residential schools.

b. In one paragraph, describe what transgenerational/intergenerational trauma is.

c. In two paragraphs, describe what has been observed in the children/grandchildren of

the survivors of the residential schools (e.g. what kinds of difficulties have been

experienced)

d. In one paragraph, how might epigenetics have contributed to what we are seeing across

generations?

e. In one paragraph, how might the individual’s current environment, including

relationship with family, community, economics, etc., be contributing to what we are

seeing across generations?

f. In one paragraph, in your opinion, how might we break the cycle?

The assignment should be 2-3 pages long, double-spaced and typed and use APA formatting for citations

and references. The answers to the questions should be in paragraph/essay form, with full sentences

and formal writing.
