FAMILY BUSINESS
“Delusions of current success blind executives of the risks ahead” (Rukare, 2016)
It should be noted that whether or not the business is currently experiencing challenges (and these could range from low sales, revenue, or inefficiency) developing new capabilities and processes for the future is critical. This transformation process is one of the most complex issues any business would have to contend with, however, it’s even more contentious within family businesses, due to aspects of ownership, inter-generation transition and overall governance issues.
Task
To that end, you have been tasked to write a 2500-3000-word report to the board of your family business or any other family business of your choice (for those that do not have a family business)- that evaluates the current business operations and provides suggestions of at least three possibilities that the business could pivot towards in the future. These suggestions should be justified with supporting theory, evidence and frameworks.
Note:
· Your narrative and suggestions should be guided by the central premise of your family business.
· Students would have to provide a synopsis of their family business or any other company of their choice prior to offering any transformation strategies.
· It is fundamental that theory, observations as well as frameworks are used to provide depth and synthesis to the narrative.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit must be the student's own work. If you present, as your own idea, any material copied, paraphrased, or extensively drawn upon, you are plagiarizing—unless you give full citations for your sources. Of course, you may make full use of ideas, arguments and information obtained from books etc. but you must make clear which portion of your paper is not your own and provide a detailed reference to the original source.
Assignments which violate Hult’s Honor code may not be revised. In the first instance of plagiarism, the plagiarized assessment will be given a grade of zero and will result in automatic Disciplinary Probation. You may also be required to rewrite the plagiarized assignment for no additional credit.
Subsequent violations of the Honor code are assessed on a case by case basis before the Academic Standards Committee and may result in sanctions up to and including dismissal from the program.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have read and understood the section entitled “Academic Integrity” in the Student Handbook. If you have any questions about that material, please speak to your instructor.
