The change initiative that I will use for my Week 8 Change Management Application paper involves two sections in the organization that I am a member of. The first section includes members who are communicators and are separate from the second section which does a lot of the same communication tasks. The sections were split up several months ago so that a new leadership position could be created, however, it was more efficient and effective when the two sections were together. It would be easier to divy out tasks and provide training if there is only one section. It would allow us to become a more cohesive group. Right now, the only time we work together is when we do training in a field environment. I plan to act and push for the sections to be back together in the next month.
In my paper, I will use Kotter’s eight-step process as it will guide me in making the change initiative successful. A change initiative is defined as a series of actions taken to implement a transformation process which should properly begin with planning, then proceeding with communicating as operational implementation, solving problems, evaluating situations and making decisions. The type of organizational change is tuning. It is anticipatory and focuses on individual components or subsystems.

The change initiative that I plan to use is the transition of ownership of our company. Currently, the owners of the organization are planning for their retirement and exit from the business. This is not slated to happen for at least another 3-5 years, but because it is a major change, it requires significant planning. Ownership will transfer from the current owners/founders to a current employee.
I believe this would be classified as a redirecting/reorienting type of change. It is a "major, strategic change resulting from planned programs" (Cawsey, Deszca and Ingols, 2016, p.22).
