Assessment 5 Organizational Code of Ethics

Overview

Write 4–6 pages in which you develop an organizational code of ethics for information technologists. This includes evaluating ethical issues and providing a supporting rationale for codes of ethics.

One of the major issues of cyberethics is the protection of someone's intellectual property. It is too easy to cut and paste someone else's work and make it your own. Doing so is stealing (cyberpiracy). Cybervandalism is the destruction of someone's digital property, such as defacing a Web site. Cybertrespass is using an open Wi-Fi signal that you do not have permission to use. This is trespassing on another person's or organization's digital property.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Competency 1: Evaluate information technology ethics and the implications for people and technological practices.

Justify the importance of developing an ethical code for IT professionals within a company. Competency 2: Evaluate ethical responsibilities of an information technology professional.

Compile in a PowerPoint presentation the most important components that a company would need to include in its IT code of ethics.

Competency 3: Evaluate the ethical issues of information technology found in the current literature and professional organizations.

Justify in a written report the need for a company to develop an IT code of ethics. Competency 4: Communicate effectively.

Produce a written report that is likely to persuade high-level company officials. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that would persuade high-level company officials according to their needs and expectations. Follow APA style and format guidelines for resources and citations, and create a document that is clearly written and generally free of grammatical errors.

Assessment Instructions

For the final assessment, you will assume the position of an outside consultant for ABC Company who has contacted you to determine if it is necessary to implement an IT code of ethics. You will write a brief report on the importance of writing and adopting a code of ethics for ABC Company. You will develop a PowerPoint presentation that will include the important components to include in this code of ethics. The report will be presented to the CEO and CIO. The PowerPoint presentation will be presented to top management and supervisors as well as the CEO and CIO.

To successfully complete this assessment, you will be expected to:

1. Justify in a written report the need to develop and adopt a code of ethics at the ABC Company.

2. Determine in your written report the key ethical responsibilities of information technology professionals.

3. Communicate your rationale for this code of ethics persuasively in your written report, according to the needs of the CEO and CIO and other upper managers and supervisors who will attend.

4. Compile in a PowerPoint presentation the most important components that would need to be part of the ABC Company's code of ethics.

5. Develop your PowerPoint presentation persuasively, according to the needs of the CEO and CIO and other upper managers and supervisors who will attend.

Additional Requirements

Your report should:

Include a title page and a references page. Include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph. Include a minimum of two research resources. Follow APA guidelines for style and formatting. Be approximately 3–4 pages in length, excluding the title page and references page.
