Case Study The purpose of the case study is to become familiar with children and their cognitive development. Providing relevant data related to assessment tools can provide an understanding of how children can learn best. The case study needs to be completed in APA format. You must have at least 5 (five) in text citations from articles, books, journals, or other published work relevant to Child Development. The case study needs to be between 2-4 pages, not including title page or reference sheet! The following questions serve only as a guide; however, you must include each sub header as is on your case study to make it flow and more cohesive.

Suggested Outline Introduction: Provide an introduction to the preschool Explain the setting, location, room environment, and culture of the school Provide an overview of your experience of the observation Brief summary and overview of your case study State some key findings and highlights of study (and elaborate on these later) State how study has influence how you will provide instruction to all students (elaborate below) Selection of student: Why did you select your student? How did you select your student? What were your expectations for your observations? Student Background: How old was student? What is the student’s background? (Ethnicity, culture, or other relevant information) How long has the student attended the program? School Qualification-Educational Background: What is the teacher’s background? What is the adult – child ratio? What type of assessment tools are used and how often? What is the supporting team’s educational background? What type of Program? Head Start, Private, Family Home Care, District etc. What are the school demographics?

Instructional Strategies: What were the MOST effective strategies for your student used by you or your teacher? Why? What were the LEAST effective strategies for your student? Why? What were the MOST effective literacy practices for your student used by you or your teacher? Why? What were the LEAST effective literacy practices for your student? Why? How did you or your teachers incorporate your student’s funds of knowledge (prior knowledge) into the lessons? What did you learn about your student’s background (funds of knowledge)? Self-Reflection: What were the main findings in your case study? For you, what were the key highlights in the study? Why were they important to you? What did you learn about yourself through the process of conducting the case study? How did your case study better help you understand your student? How did your case study better help you understand yourself as a teacher? If you had to do the study over, what would you do different, or what else would you add? Conclusions What implications did you observe? Any future recommendations you can make to the school or teacher to provide a “high quality” program for all students? Reference: Do not forget to include your in text citation using articles, research, peer reviewed journals, lecture power points, or other sources relevant to child development. This assignment needs to have at least 5 (five) scholar sources to support your case study. Include your reference sheet using APA formatting; please refer to the APA workshop conducted earlier in the semester for guidance.
