Leadership can be defined as someone who is standing up and giving the correct direction to their employees. I feel that this definition of leadership is universal, but very important in the criminal justice area. Leaders are meant to shape individuals in to being leaders as well. They are meant to push their co-workers to be just as good as they are and they are supposed to mold them into being a leader for when they are going to be gone. Also leadership can be defined as an organization or a group of people who are coming together to lead a bigger group. Leaders should have the desire to change people for the better, " Effective leaders do not only act as a guiding force and trusted decision-maker, but also serve as a signpost for what to do next" (Karimu 2016). This is a great aspect because it is motivating other officials to be as good as the leader is. Another reason leadership is very important is because law enforcement has to have an ethical look on everything they do, "Within the criminal justice system, these can be quite large and glaring issues that receive much more attention than issues in other fields" (LSUA 2017). Ethics are a huge part of the criminal justice system because in some cases they have the fate of many peoples lives in their hands and they can't tread lightly with that. Also ethically, some criminal justice officials have to deal with murders and rape which are traumatic events in the peoples lives who are involved. I think that leadership is a key part in the criminal justice field because criminal justice is any everyday occurrence and is involved in every day activities. Also leadership can come in handy when people are injured or let go, shaping someone to be a leader is hard but very important in creating the future of organizations. Many organizations need to focus on creating and drafting leaders because good leaders will make other leaders out of the people they are around in the work place which will create a better organization.
