1302 Research Paper
For this semester’s research paper you will use an approved, argumentative question to
compose a convincing argument.
This paper will include identifying and integrating reputable sources to create a 1302-
level essay that explores one of the semester readings and offers thoughtful analysis and
synthesis.
The grading criteria are available for you (see “Researched Argument rubric” document).
The successful 1302 paper will include the following components:
Minimum of four, full pages. Do not exceed seven pages.
Background information in the introduction and throughout the essay that helps
the reader understand your topic
Biographical information
Critical commentary from approved sources
Integration of sources that you have read and listed in Annotated Bibliography.
You need six sources for the bibliography; of the six, you must use at least three
in your research paper. The primary source counts as one source, so you will add
two additional sources.
Summary, quotes, and paraphrases where they are needed: Most of the argument is
yours; the sources are used to emphasize your points, provide historical context,
clarity, and contribute specialized information.
Formal language that: avoids first person and second person. Use third person
only; is free of colloquialisms unless used to enhance ideas; maintains an
academic tone from beginning to end

Clear paragraphs, topic sentences, and transitional words
Effective use of MLA format including, but not limited to header, paging, font, in-
text citations and corresponding Works Cited entries. Research papers that fail
to include a Works Cited page and in-text citations will not receive a grade
higher than the “60s (D)” range.
Adherence to all research-related deadlines.
