Empirical Rationale/Hypothesis/Research QuestionWorksheet

70 Points

(Check schedule for due date)

Instructions: To complete this assignment, you will need to integrate what you have learning from the readings associated with not only your assigned variable, but the class variables of Student Communication Satisfaction. This assignment will be completed in several stages.Following the information provided during lecture and within your textbook, please answer the following questions. Please type your responses. You will attach an APA reference page for all sources cite.

Empirical Rationale (30 points):

To introduce the hypothesis, you are to provide a rationale which should be a logical, well-supported paragraph (which means that you will include justification from peer-reviewed journal articles to support your claims) indicating why the IV and DVshould be related (or not) in the manner that you have predicted. Recall the in-class discussion regarding the prosocial or antisocial nature of your variables. For example, if you know that instructor misbehaviors are an antisocial behavior, then cite relevant research to support this assertion.If needed, you should provide rationale for why a research question (and not a hypothesis) might be warranted for your variables. For example, if you cannot find justification within the literature for why your assigned variable might be related to Student Communication Satisfaction, then perhaps a research question must be posed.

Hypothesisand/or Research Question (20 points):

Provide yourresearch hypothesis and/or your research question (if you have more than onehypothesis, write them all in this section)(10 points):

What type of hypothesis is your research hypothesis? (Hint: We discussed three types of hypotheses). If you are posing a research question instead, what type of research question are you posing? (Hint: We discussed two types of research questions; Explain;5 points):

What does your research hypothesis attempt to predict? For example, if you are examining group differences, then what are the groups and why is it important to know about these group differences. If you are examining a specific relationship, what type (i.e., positive, negative) and why do you think the relationship will be either positive or negative? (Explain; 5points)

Variables (20 points):

Define your Independent Variable(s):

· Operational definition: Describe the number of items, dimensions (if applicable), and how participants are to respond to the questionnaire (i.e., the instructions). This should be similar to the paragraph found in the instrumentation portion of the methodology. Also, attach a PDF of the seminal article and indicate from which page number you located the scale (6 points).

· Range: What is the lowest a participant could score on the scale? The highest? If the variable has multiple dimensions, then you will need to provide a range in scores for each dimension (4 points).

ProvidedDependent Variable: Student Communication Satisfaction
