Assessment 6 Network Security

Overview

Create a 5–6-page security and privacy plan for a small doctor's office, in which you describe standards that will help ensure the privacy and integrity of the many facets of a network.

Because networks are designed to share information, security is an ongoing issue that must be assessed and addressed at all levels. This assessment focuses on creating an effective, enterprise-wide network security plan for an organization.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Competency 1: Define business problems that can be solved using basic network concepts and standards. Discuss measures that are necessary to protect the transfer of data to and from the network. Identify policies that protect the hardware and physical aspects of the network.

Competency 2: Explain fundamental standards of networking technology. Describe common vulnerabilities, risks, and issues in networking. Describe steps that will be taken to ensure the security of the operating systems and network files.

Competency 3: Explain the components of a network. Identify hardware areas that need to be secured.

Competency 4: Apply collaboration strategies in the network design process. Describe a plan for standards to protect the users from harming the network and system. Apply the assessment's assigned lab concepts and activities.

Competency 5: Design basic network infrastructures. Create an enterprise-wide network security plan for an organization.

Competency 6: Communicate effectively. Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of professional communities.

Network security deals with the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of networks. Confidentiality is about keeping information private. Integrity is making sure only the appropriate people have access to the information they need. Availability involves keeping a network up and running all the time with minimal downtime. Networks

Network security also involves protecting computers from viruses through the use of virus scanners on individual computers or on networks. To safely communicate remotely to another site, VPNs can provide a secure tunnel between your network and another private network over a public network like the Internet.
