· A well-developed thesis with an introduction that establishes the issues at stake and a conclusion that indicates the implications of the argument.
· Body paragraphs that demonstrate development of each idea and focus on relevant details. They will include clearly explained examples that support the claims.
[Organization]
· Strong topic sentences that build upon the argument suggested in the thesis.
· Clear transitions connect ideas both on the paragraph level and the sentence level.
[Style & Mechanics]
· The paper demonstrates mastery over the basics in sentence completeness, structure, variety, word choice, and punctuation.
· It will avoid first-person constructions, except in your conclusion where you may offer your own opinion based upon your research.
· Passive voice is allowed, if you wish, but be aware that passive statements are sometimes not as strong in making an argument.
· 2–3 pages, double spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman, in-text citations in any style, as long as you are consistent.
