12.4 REFLECTION AND ACTION WORKSHEET
Ethical Leadership
Reflection
1. This chapter suggests that leadership has a moral dimension and that leaders have a responsibility to use their authority for the common good. Do you agree? Discuss. Yes, I will agree with the speaker of the leader have authority to use his power for the good work. Leader need to use his power to save the people and helping them.
2. When you consider the character of a leader and what a leader does (the leader’s actions), which of these two factors is more important with regard to ethical leadership? Can a person with bad character be an ethical leader? Discuss your answers.Moral conduct, in its most straightforward terms, is knowing and doing what needs to be done. The trouble is in characterizing “right”. Different people, distinctive societies, and diverse religions characterize it in diverse ways. The acknowledged treatment of ladies and states of mind toward bondage in distinctive societies and at diverse times in history give prime illustrations of how what’s “correct” can fluctuate.
3. In this chapter, the circumstances at Abu Ghraib prison are used as an example of unethical leadership. Do you agree with this assessment? How do you view what happened at Abu Ghraib? What factors explain the leadership ethics in this situation? I agree that it is unethical, I feel what happen is uncalled for just because what happen at 9/11 don’t give any soldier the privilege to do the things they do to the prisoners at war. If you want information from someone then you give them respect and ask question they would have got more information from the prisoner if they respected them.
4. This chapter includes a story about Richard Lee, the father who coached his son’s Little League baseball team. What was your reaction to the story? Do you think Richard was an ethical leader? How would you have responded in this situation? I do think Richard was an ethical leader. He decided to take his son out and not show favoritism. The other parents only disliked his decision because Richard’s son was a really good player, I think if it would have been anyone else then the parents would have again been outraged that the child had not been taken out of the game for their behavior. I think I would have responded in the same way.
Action
1. Based on your responses to the Core Values Questionnaire, what are your core values? Do you think other people know your core values? Are you comfortable talking about these values with others? In your planning for the future (e.g., next five years), how will your values influence what you do? Discuss. Qualities are the directing standards in our lives. Initiative happens inside of the setting of center qualities. Pioneers direct and encourage others to have a constructive outcome in their own lives and to add to a bigger decent. Qualities educate the utilization of initiative qualities as the capabilities of authority are enacted, learned, created, and bonded.
2. Character is a fundamental aspect of ethical leadership. What are your character strengths and weaknesses? List three specific actions you could take to strengthen your character. My character strengths are my responsibility, trustworthiness, and fairness. My character weakness is mainly citizenship. I am introverted and do not take the time to go out and share with my community. To strengthen this weakness. I could get involved with a local charity or organization such as a recreation sports team so I can get used to interacting with others in the community. I could also participate more in the local 5ks and other similar events.
3. In the Observational Exercise, you observed and analyzed the ethical leadership of a specific leader. If you were to apply the same analysis to your own leadership, how would you describe yourself? What factors best explain the ethics of your own leadership? If you were to try to become a more ethical leader, what specific changes should you make in your leadership? Discuss. I would work more on serving others. I admit I am selfish a lot of the time and would rather read or do art by myself. Being more social and active with others would help me gain experience and learn how to handle ethical situation since I would more likely be put in situation where decision have to be made. Also, I need to work harder on being proactive and thinking of the king run more. This will help me be a more ethical leader because I will be used to making decision based on the long run rather than the short run and the bottom line.
