INFORMATION SYSTEM.
Florentino
Florentino, a bar in North Sydney established in 2014 by university friends Antonio and Marisa has been doing pretty well. They have a vision create a bar with relaxed community atmosphere along with good music and drinks. due to advancement in technology they are not only facing competitive challenge with other clubs and restaurants but also with the threat of product substation.
Today customer of all age group uses internet. Internet is the first place where customer look into for the information about retailers (Entrepreneur Asia pacific, 2008). They can create a web page through Microsoft Office Live Small Business. Creating a web page will provide Florentino with opportunity to introduce themselves to the customers through advertisement on social media like Facebook, Instagram, twitter and so on. When customer visit to their page they can see the pictures of the bar, menus for drinks and food and learn about ordering process. Web page with location and phone number optimises search engine and the business will appear in google search. But Web page need to be updated with every change in menus, price and specials. They can set up online ordering and reservation and Voice assistance in the phone, so users can know about daily specials, store hours and discounts during happy hours. Similarly, Free wi-fi could be another attraction for the customer.
Managing a bar is dealing with shrinkage. Shrinkage is loss of stock that has not been sold and is a huge profit drainer and a never-ending task (Cafferty, B., 2012). A better method to deal with inventory shrinkage starts with ordering in a managed and controlled manner and timely stock take. Florentino can start with recording everything like staff drinks, management drinks, free drinks and stock going on the kitchen. There should be minimum and maximum stock level. They should train their staff to follow the procedure to prepare food and drinks. Installing cameras and mirrors for security purpose and to keep an eye on how staff operates.
Point of sale system (POS) will help Antonio and Marisa to keep record of daily transactions, deliver better customer service and keep control of cost. Dashboards located in POS system can display dynamically driven information regarding stock, sales and revenue to the back office. (Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, 2018). On other hand for POS there should be reliable internet connection and software update of POS are expensive. Beverage dispensing system like liquor dispenser, beer equipment’s, laser quick pouring gun, All-Bottle free pouring system can be used. These systems have portion control and give consistent drink, which will reduce spilling and overpouring of drinks (Berg Liquor Control, 2018). The system records all drinks poured and can easily be connected to POS system that will eliminate theft and give away and increase revenue and overall profitability.
By using EDP, Antonio and Marisa can easily monitor their stock and logistic. As order comes the data is inputted in the system, processed and transformed as a picking order and transmitted to Florentino. When the stock is picked the item is deducted from the database for new orders.
As, Florentino is already structured bar Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) would be the best choice because setting up wires will be difficult for Florentino. Like Local Area Network, WLAN connects group of computers to a server through a very high speed but only in a closed geographic region. Through WLAN computers and technologies used in Florentino can be connected to a server where all the information related to invoice, order, stock and sales are safely recorded.
Acquiring information systems like inventory management system, POS system and beverage dispensing system will help Antonio and Marisa to record all the business transaction which makes managing the business easier and rational business decision making. In other hand these technology’s will assist in excellent customer service and give Florentino a completely new look.
