Grocery Bag Project

 

Purpose:  The purpose of this project is to design a scientific investigation into the use of different types of grocery bags.

 

Summary:  You will design an investigation to test a question related to grocery store customers’ use of paper vs. plastic vs. reusable grocery bags.  You will submit a plan describing how to test a question related to grocery bag use.  You will also construct a table and a graph of results based on observational data supplied to you.  Based on your analysis of this data, you will draw conclusions.

 

Project Timeline:  Week 1

1. Kick off the first week by watching the TED-Ed video “Which Bag Should You Use?” and answering the Grocery Bag Video Questions assignment in Blackboard.  This assignment is worth 10 points.  The video is available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_fjEc4aQVk

2. Now it’s time to design an experiment to test a question related to grocery bag use.  Complete the Grocery Bag Project Experimental Design Template.  This assignment is worth 10 points.

Your instructor has collected data which can be used to answer a question related to the use of different types of grocery bags.  This data is in a data file named: Grocery Bag Data.  It is located in this folder. Choose a question to explore related the to the use of grocery bags. Use the data to answer this question.  Write a report which includes your question, a table of your analyzed data, a statement of the results, and a conclusion.  The Grocery Bag Report Guide contains complete information about writing this report.  Submit your Grocery Bag Project Report.  This assignment is worth 15 points.
