Analysis: There is the power of faith in both the Omelas and in the bible. This is because we are told that the group they had no one to lead them that is the king and more so they did not have the sword, slaves and they were guided by few laws and rules. This is similar to the case in Psalms 44: 3 because Israelites were able to come from the King Pharaoh dictatorial leadership and slavery without using any swords but on Having Faith in God. The people of Omelas did not use the arms to address the oppression of children we are told that they did not have police as they trusted the protection that was provided by Yahweh. This was can be related to the theory of utilitarianism where people of Omelas decided to use less force as this would have an importance to the greatest number of people. Most Individual will not be killed and avoid the use of police to reduce the brutal killing and this would save many lives. In the name that they are seeking justice for their children (Piacquadio, Paolo Giovanni n.d.). |

Analysis: The author describes the city in Omela as that full of happiness he says ‘a magnanimous triumph……………………the victory they celebrate is that of life. All of a sudden the author’s voice changed and intrudes after the delectable description above and he said “Do you believe……… No? This is because the society was full of suffering where a boy or girl is in a government closet. The people of Omela knows they are undergoing suffering and the city thrive because of its pain. I can relate this to the Bible where Jesus knew he is going to face a lot of suffering and he accepted the bitter cup of suffering. In the city of Omela, the child is merely a victim and there is no balance between suffering and happiness. The society blame is stark and the moral responsibility to leave the behavior though this would not release a tormented child just like the exodus came from the idealistic to communal and is removed from the wilderness of America but the problem of social injustices remains. |

Analysis: The people of Omela are facing a lot of challenges and they knew that they facing but have nothing they can do to avoid the child suffering. We are told ‘they all knew…………..depend wholly on this child’s misery’ (Brandt 2003). I can relate this when Adam was cursed the earth was also cursed due to his sins. People are never cruel to this curse or ask why the earth deserves this fate since we cannot reverse the situation and everyone aims to preserve this status quo. Though most of the people would wish to reverse the situation such as not sweating to earn a living we have nothing we can do to reverse this. |

Analysis: In the book ‘The one who Walks away from Omelas wants to address the moral values of the political leaders or simply the rich. The child is used as a symbol of the capitalistic class in the Westernized culture such as the developing countries like the United States and underdeveloped countries. In both countries, the poor are overlooked, exploited and oppressed by the rich. The moral accountability and happiness of the majority in developed and undeveloped communities rest on the misery of a powerless minority. This can be related to the Pharaoh’s case where he oppressed the children of Israelites to benefit himself as the King. |
