Assignment 1:

  1. In the following exercise, you will continue to develop the House project, adding Oak floor to the 1st floor, adding Foundation, and Footing to the project and Slab on Grade for Garage, and Basement.
  2. Set the First Floor View active and set the detail level to Medium. From the Modify panel of the Ribbon, choose Floor architectural. From the Properties drop down menu, choose Wood Truss Joist 10”-Wood finish.

Zoom on one of the exterior wall corners of the main house. Choose pick walls and move your cursor into the middle of one of the walls until it highlights and a dashed line appears indicating the border of the floor drawing along the outer core boundary. Press the TAB key and then pick to do a chain selection of the walls. Trim any extra edges until you have a closed boundary all the way around the main building footprint. Pick finish sketch. If prompted to join the floor to the exterior walls, choose yes.

  1. Create a new Floor over the entire Second Floor of the building. Use the Floor –Wood Truss Joist 10”-Wood Finish and extend the boundary to the wall core. When you finish the sketch, you will receive an option to” have the walls that go up to this floor’s level attach to its bottom pick Don’t attach.

If you pick attach, it will detach the exterior Brick walls as shown below:

If you want to hide partitions from First Floor, in the Properties, set the Underlay to None.

  1. Double click on the South Elevation, and create a new level and rename it to T.O.Footing.G and set the height to -4’ 0”.
  1. From project Browser, double click on Foundation. From Build panel of the Ribbon, pick Wall/structure and in the Type Selector choose Foundation 10” concrete. In the Properties pallet, set the Base Constraint: T. O. Footing and Top Constraint: Foundation.

In the Option Bar set the Location Line: Core Centerline, use the Pick line and select the core of the wall to draw the foundation wall around the perimeter of the main building.

  1. From project Browser, double click on Foundation. From Build panel of the Ribbon, pick Wall/structure and in the Type Selector choose Foundation 10” concrete. In the Properties pallet, set the Base Constraint: T. O. Footing G and Top Constraint: T. O. Foundation.

In the Option Bar set the Location Line: Core Centerline, use the Pick line and select the core of the wall to draw the foundation wall around the perimeter of the Garage.

  1. When the foundation perimeter is completed, switch to a 3D view. From the Structural tab of the Ribbon, under Foundation tab, pick Wall (middle icon). In type selector, choose wall foundation: Bearing footing: 36” x 12”. Move your mouse over one of the foundation walls and press TAB to chain select all of the walls. Pick to add footings to the foundation in a single step.
  1. From project Browser, double click on Basement. From Ribbon pick Floor/Architectural and select Concrete Slab: 4”and draw the slab on basement.
  1. From project Browser, double click on Grade level and add floor to Garage: Concrete Slab: 4”.
  1. Select both Garage Doors and from the Properties panel, set the Level: Foundation.
  1. Save your file as your initial _your student number and upload it to your class folder on Blackboard to be marked.
