Introduction

Background Information: College students often find long lists of majors and courses when they register for their first semester. With so many choices, students can easily become overwhelmed and confused about how to move forward. Advisors know that students are most likely to be successful when they create a plan for each semester with their academic and career goals in mind. Choosing a pathway at PGCC will help students to move through their programs of study successfully.

Thesis Statement: I have identified three pathways in particular based on my interests and goals as a student at PGCC.

IV. 1st Draft: Write a four-paragraph essay using this outline with the above introduction , thesis statement, and three body paragraphs. No conclusion is necessary in this first essay. Please type your essay on this document using the following academic format:

ESL 0202 Academic Format

This is the form to follow for essay writing in ESL 0202. Keep a one-inch margin on both sides of the page. Double-space your paper using the double-spacing function under “Paragraph Format” in Microsoft Word. Do not press enter twice to double-space. Please use size 12-font and Times New Roman style. You should give each assignment a title. The title of your work should not be in bold, underlined or italicized. Put the thesis at the end of the first paragraph.

Do not forget to indent paragraphs by clicking on the Tab button on your keyboard. Each paragraph should have about four to seven sentences. One of these sentences should be a topic sentence. Do not forget to check for spelling errors.

The third paragraph begins here. When you are finished look at the number of words in your essay on the bottom left hand screen for Microsoft Word. Notice the number of words in your essay by looking at the bottom left on your document screen. We will try to write essays of 500 words by the end of our class.
