Peer Review Form – Research Essay Editor: Author:

Writer – Before Conducting the Peer Review ( Jot down a few ideas here)

In the message you send to your partner that contains a Word attachment of your draft, please share 3-5 concerns you have about your draft and/or the Part II assignment.

Support Paragraphs with Text ( Use these to guide revision for each ‘support’ BP, type on draft only):

1. Lookout for 1st person (I, me, my, we, our) and 2nd person (you) – Try to help to convert to 3rd

2. Topic Sentence - Does the first sentence state the overall main point of the paragraph?

-Does the topic sentence capture a specific enough point or could it be more specific?

3. Source Use - Are the topic sentence and source use closely related? Does the quote/paraphrase work to support the topic sentence idea?

-Look for PIES - Is the rule of 1/3’s followed? Does the source use take up about 1/3 of the paragraph? Is the source worked in after the author has thoroughly introduced and analyzed the main point?

-‘Stepping back’ – check and make sure that source use is not going over 50% of the total info in a support paragraph

**If no source use, comment on the support given.

4. Citation - Does the source use properly follow MLA citation rules?

5. Focus - Does the paragraph stick to the same point throughout or does there seem to be multiple ideas?

**C/R or Opposition Paragraphs ( Type on draft only, and if used):

Does the author effectively transition into the concession or opposition point?

Is the opposition point specific and clearly stated in the first couple of sentences?

Is the concession and rebuttal sections approximately the same length? If the C/R is one paragraph, it should be about 50/50. The concession rebuttal may also be split into 2 separate paragraphs.

Editor - After Finishing the Paper ( type response to these questions in final 4 comments at end of draft):

Consider the overall organization of the body section. Does it flow from one idea to the next, one paragraph to the next? Does the organization seem choppy, like an essay made up of separate points with little connection? Could the organization improve and how so?

Is the Part II draft at or over the 5 page minimum? If it is under, please consider how the author may expand their essay. Is there room to expand individual paragraphs by adding further analysis? Are there major ideas that could be added and built into new paragraphs? Do some of the paragraphs have multiple points or are perhaps too broad, and could they be broken into multiple paragraph if expanded?
