Informative Research
ENG 102 Informative Research Paper Guidelines Prof. Waters The Informative Research Paper is a research report that presents the information you have researched on your approved course research project in an objective way. Unlike the second research paper in the course, this paper is an informative research report (NOT an argument research paper). Paper Requirements (all parts of the paper must be included, or the paper will not be accepted) 1. Title page (instructions will be provided in class) 2. A formal outline, with a Main Idea Statement at the top of the outline page (this paper has no thesis because it is not an argument paper) 3. Body of paper must be a minimum of 4 full pages, typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font (6-page maximum) 4. Paper must cite from a minimum of 15 citations from a minimum of 10 sources from the assigned ASU Library research 5. A Works Cited page that matches the citations in the paper (everything that is cited in the paper must be listed on the Works Cited page and everything on the Works Cited page must be correctly cited in the paper) 6. Paper should be in MLA format throughout, Times New Roman font, and submitted as a properly formatted Word file. Guidelines for content and organization of the paper body *An introduction paragraph that provides an appropriate opening statement, some general history and background of the topic, a preview of main points, and a main idea statement that follows the assignment instructions *At least 5 well-developed body paragraphs that address each of the following key points (in this order): -General history and background regarding the general topic and the specific issue (1-2 paragraphs) -A detailed and in-depth explanation of the parties/stakeholders involved on the opposing sides, directly and indirectly (1-2 paragraphs) -A detailed and in-depth explanation of each of the opposing claims and reasons presented by the opposing sides/stakeholders (at least 1 paragraph for each side) -A detailed and in-depth explanation of what is at stake for the immediate parties involved and for broader society in the outcome of action taken on the issue *A conclusion paragraph that summarizes the information presented, discusses the significance and brings the paper to an appropriate close.
