ENGL 102 Handout on MLA

This handout is for demonstrating MLA citations for the short stories in ENGL 102, which are

now drawn from a variety of online sources. It was created by the UMUC Library. The entries

are color-coded to provide a visual approach to citing sources.

MLA has switched to the 8 th

edition: the UMUC English Program will start requiring the 8 th

edition from Spring 2017 onward.

It is recommended that this handout be used as a teaching tool; you do not have to provide it to

students, but rather have them work through the citations on their own. This is for your reference

however you decide to use it.

Note:

URLs should not include the “http://” at the beginning. Use DOI numbers when available and

stable/permanent links whenever possible.
