EXIT DOOR REQUIREMENTS: (IBC 1005.1, 1008)
ELEVATOR REQUIREMENTS: (IBC 1007.2.1, 1007.4) The elevators provided are used as combination passenger and freight elevators for the public and employees (ADAAG 4.10.1).
The elevators are not considered to be an accessible means of egress in "buildings where a required accessible floor is four or more stories above or below a level of exit discharge" (IBC 1007.2.1). The building is three stories above a level of exit discharge.
The elevators are not required to comply with the emergency operated signaling device requirements (IBC 1007.4 exc.2). Per NAU technical standards, standby power shall be provided for at least one elevator.
EGRESS COMPONENTS
STAIRS & AREA OF REFUGE: (IBC 1007.3.2, 1007.3.3)
PENETRATIONS AT EXIT ENCLOSURE: (IBC 1022.4)
Penetrations into and openings through an exit enclosure are prohibited except for required exit doors, equipment and ductwork necessary for independent pressurization, sprinkler piping, standpipes, electrical raceway for fire department communication systems and electrical raceways serving the exit enclosure and terminating at a steel box not exceeding 16 square inches. Such penetrations shall be protected in accordance with Section 713.
The proposed Northern Arizona University campus Student and Academic Services Building is an approximately 94,500 square foot academic building that will include a One Stop Students Service Center, Undergraduate Admissions Center, an auditorium, mathematics computer lab, classrooms, department offices, faculty offices, conference rooms, restrooms, circulation, support facilities, and interior mechanical spaces. Building systems components will be housed in a roof top penthouse and dedicated facility service access rooms.

Class C interior finish materials shall be permitted for wainscotting or paneling of not more than 1,000 square feet of applied surface area in the grade lobby where applied directly to a noncombustible base or over furring strips applied to a noncombustible base and fireblocked as required by Sec. 803.11.1.
b. In exit enclosures of buildings less than three stories above grade plane of other than Group I-3, ... Class C interior finish for sprinklered buildings shall be permitted.
c. Requirements for rooms and enclosed spaces shall be based upon spaces enclosed by partitions. Where a fire-resistance rating is required for structural elements, the enclosing partitions shall extend from the floor to the ceiling. Partitions that do not comply with this shall be considered enclosing spaces and the rooms or spaces on both sides shall be considered one. In determining the applicable requirements for rooms and enclosed spaces, the specific occupancy thereof shall be the governing factor regardless of the group classification of the building or structure.

The hourly rating of the roof assembly shall be equal to or greater than the hourly rating of the wall assembly. The roof assembly shall include the following construction features:

(13 to 19 mm) less in length than assembly height with bottom nesting in and resting on floor runner and with top nesting in ceiling runner without attachment. When slotted ceiling runner (Item 2A1) is used, steel studs secured to slotted ceiling runner with No. 8 by 1/2 in. (13 mm) long wafer head steel screws at midheight of slot on each side of wall. C. Gypsum Board* — Gypsum board installed to a min total thickness of 5/8 in. (16 mm) or 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) on each side of wall for 1 and 2 hr rated assemblies, respectively. Wall to be constructed as specified in the individual Wall and Partition Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory, except that a nom 2 in. (51 mm) gap shall be maintained between the top of the gypsum board and the bottom of the steel deck and the top row of screws shall be installed into the studs 4 to 4-1/2 in. (102 to 114 mm) below the lower surface of the floor or roof.
3. Joint System — Max separation between bottom of floor or roof and top of wall at time of installation of joint system is 2 in. (51 mm). The joint system is designed to accommodate a max 20 percent compression or extension from its installed width. The joint system consists of a deflection channel, forming material and a fill material, as follows:
A. Deflection Channel — A nom 3-5/8 in. (92 mm) wide by 3 in. (76 mm) deep min No. 22 gauge steel U-shaped channel. Deflection channel installed parallel to direction of fluted steel deck, centered beneath valley, and secured to valley of steel deck with steel fasteners or by welds spaced max 12 in. (305 mm) OC. When optional spray-applied fire resistive material is used on the steel deck, deflection channel secured through spray-applied material to valley of the steel deck with min 3/16 in. (5 mm) diam steel masonry anchors spaced max 12 in. (305 mm) OC. The ceiling runner (Item 2A) is installed within the deflection channel to maintain a 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) gap between the top of the ceiling runner and the top of the deflection channel. The ceiling runner is not fastened to the deflection channel.
B. Forming Material* — Nom 5/8 in. (16 mm) and 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) thick strips of min 4 pcf mineral wool batt insulation, for 1 and 2 hr rated assemblies respectively, cut to wide, compressed 33 percent in width and firmly packed into the gap between the top of the gypsum board and bottom of the steel deck, flush with both surfaces of the wall. (13 mm) onto gypsum board and steel deck on both sides of wall. When spray-applied fire resistive material is applied to the steel deck, the fill material is to overlap the gypsum board a min of 1/2 in. C. Gypsum Board* — For 1 hr assembly, one layer of 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick gypsum board is required in the individual Wall and Partition Design. For 2 hr assembly, two layers of 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick gypsum board is required in the individual Wall and Partition Design. For both hourly ratings, a nominal 3/4 in. (19 mm) gap shall be maintained between the top of the gypsum board and the bottom surface of the steel floor units and the top row of screws shall be installed into the studs 3 in. (76 mm) below the valleys of the steel floor units.
The hourly rating of the joint system is dependent on the hourly fire rating of the wall. 3. Joint System — Max separation between bottom of floor or roof and top of wall is 3/4 in. (19 mm). The joint system is designed to
accommodate a max 33 percent compression or extension from its installed width. The joint system consists of a packing material and a fill material between the top of the gypsum board and the bottom of the floor or roof, as follows:
A. Forming Material* — Nom 4 pcf (64 kg/m3) mineral wool batt insulation, cut to the shape of the fluted deck, approx 20 percent larger than the area of the flutes and compressed into the flutes of the steel deck flutes above the ceiling runner. The mineral wool insulation is to project beyond each side of the ceiling runner, recessed 1/2 in. (13 mm) from both wall surfaces . For 2 hr assembly, an additional 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) thick by 3/4 in. (19 mm) wide sections of mineral wool batt insulation compressed 50 percent and installed cut edge first to fill the 3/4 in. (19 mm) gap between the top of gypsum board and bottom of the steel deck. The forming material shall be recessed 1/2 in. (13 mm) from each side of the wall. D1. Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material* - After installation of the steel attachment clips (Item 2B), steel floor units and structural steel support to be sprayed with the min thickness of material specified in the individual D700, D800, or D900 Series Design. The flutes of the steel floor units are to be filled with material across the entire top flange of the steel beam. Additional material shall be applied to the web of the steel beam on each side of the wall. For a 1 hr Assembly Rating, the thickness of material applied to each side of the steel beam web shall be 11/16 in. (18 mm). For a 2 hr Assembly Rating, the thickness of material applied to each side of the steel beam web shall be 1-1/2 in. (38 mm). ISOLATEK INTERNATIONAL - Type 300 or Type II
2. Wall Assembly - The 1 or 2 hr fire-rated gypsum board/stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner described in the individual U400 or V400 Series Wall or Partition Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features: A. Steel Floor and Ceiling Runners - Floor and ceiling runners of wall assembly shall consist of galv steel channels sized to
accommodate steel studs (Item 2B). Ceiling runner to be provided with min 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) to max 2 in. (51 mm) flanges. When deflection channel (Item 3A) is used, flange height of ceiling runner is to be equal to or greater than flange height of deflection channel and the ceiling runner is to nest within the deflection channel with a 1/2 in. (13 mm) to 3/4 in. (19 mm) gap maintained between the top of the ceiling runner and the top of the deflection channel. When deflection channel is not used, ceiling runner is secured to steel beam (Item 1A) with steel attachment clips (Item 2B) spaced max 24 in. (610 mm) OC. Ceiling runner or deflection channel to be centered beneath and parallel with bottom flange of steel beam. A clearance equal to the required thickness of spray-applied fireproofing material (Item 1D) shall be maintained between the top of the ceiling runner or deflection channel and the bottom flange of the steel beam.
A1. Light Gauge Framing* - Slotted Ceiling Runner - Slotted ceiling runner may be used as an alternate to the ceiling runner in Item 2A. Slotted ceiling runner to consist of galv steel channel with slotted flanges sized to accommodate steel studs (Item 2C). Ceiling runner is secured to steel beam (Item 1A) with steel attachment clips (Item 2B) spaced max 24 in. (610 mm) OC. Slotted ceiling runner to be centered beneath and parallel with bottom flange of steel beam. B. Steel Attachment Clips - Z-shaped clips formed from 1 in. (25 mm) wide strips of min 20 ga galv steel. Clips to be sized to extend through the thickness of the spray-applied fire-resistive material on the bottom flange of the steel beam with 2 in. (51 mm) long upper and lower legs. Legs of clips fastened to bottom of beam (prior to application of spray-applied fire-resistive materials) and top of ceiling runner (or deflection channel) with steel fasteners or welds. Clips spaced max 16 in. (406 mm) OC.
C. Studs - Steel studs to be min 3-1/2 in. (89 mm) wide. Studs cut 1/2 in. (13 mm) to 3/4 in. (19 mm) less in length than assembly height with bottom nesting in and secured to floor runner. When deflection channel (Item 3A) is used, steel studs attached to ceiling runner (Item 2A) with sheet metal screws located 1/2 in. (13 mm) below the bottom of the deflection channel. When deflection channel is not used, studs to nest in ceiling runner without attachment.
D. Gypsum Board* - Gypsum board sheets installed to a min total 5/8 in. (16 mm) or 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) thickness on each side of wall for 1 and 2 hr fire rated assemblies, respectively. Wall to be constructed in accordance with the individual U400 or V400 Series Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory, except that a max 1 in. (25 mm) high gap shall be maintained between the top of the gypsum board and the bottom plane of the spray applied fire resistive material on the structural steel support member. The screws attaching the gypsum board to the studs along the top of the wall shall be located 1 in. (25 mm) below the bottom of the ceiling runner. No gypsum board attachment screws shall be driven into the ceiling runner or into the optional deflection channel. The hourly fire rating of the joint system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall.
3. Joint System - Max separation between spray applied fire resistive material on bottom of structural support member and top of gypsum board (at time of installation of joint system) is 3/4 or 1 in. (19 or 25 mm). The joint system is designed to accommodate a max 19 or 100 percent compression or extension from its installed width as measured between bottom plane of the protective material on the steel beam and the top of the gypsum board. When Item 3B1 is used in lieu of the strips of mineral wool described in Item 3B, the maximum joint width is 3/4 in. (19 mm) and the movement capabilities are 100% compression or extension. The joint system shall consist of forming and fill materials, with or without a deflection channel (Item 3A), as follows:
A. Deflection Channel - (Optional, Not Shown) - Max 2 in. (51 mm) deep min 24 gauge galv steel channel sized to accommodated ceiling runner (Item 2A). Deflection channel installed parallel with and centered beneath bottom flange of steel beam (Item 1C) and secured to steel beam with steel clips (Item 2B) spaced max 16 in. (406 mm) OC. The ceiling runner (Item 2A) is installed within the deflection channel to maintain a 1/2 in. (13 mm) to 3/4 in. (19 mm) gap between the top of the ceiling runner and the top of the deflection channel. A clearance equal to the required thickness of spray-applied fireproofing material (Item 1D) shall be maintained between the top of the ceiling runner or deflection channel and the bottom flange of the steel beam. The ceiling runner nests inside the deflection channel without attachment.
B. Forming Material* - Sections of nom 4 pcf (64 kg/m3) mineral wool batt insulation to be compressed 50 percent in thickness and installed cut edge first to completely fill the gap above the top of the gypsum board. The forming material shall be installed flush with both surfaces of wall. 1. Floor Assembly — The fire-rated fluted steel deck/concrete floor assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner described in the individual D700 or D900 Series Floor-Ceiling Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory. The hourly fire rating of the floor assembly shall be equal to or greater than the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly. The floor assembly shall include the following construction features:
A. Steel Floor and Floor Units* — Max 3 in. (76 mm) deep galv steel fluted floor units. B. Concrete — Min 2-1/2 in. (64 mm) thick reinforced concrete, as measured from the top plane of the floor units. C. Structural Steel Support — Steel beam or open-web steel joist as specified in the individual D700 or D900 Series Floor-Ceiling Design, used
to support steel floor units. Structural steel support oriented parallel to wall assembly at a distance specified in Item D below. When structural steel support (Item 1C) consists of open-web steel joists, 3/8 in. (10 mm) diamond mesh expanded steel lath having a nom weight of 1.7 to 3.4 lb per sq yd (0.9 to 1.8 kg/m2) shall be installed to completely cover one side of each joist. The lath shall be secured with steel tie wire and shall be fully covered with spray applied fire resistive material.
D. Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material* — Structural steel supports to be sprayed with the thickness of material specified in the individual D700 or D900 Series Design. The flutes of the steel floor units above the structural steel supports shall be filled with spray-applied fire resistive material. The distance from the sprayed structural steel support to the face of the steel wall studs shall not exceed 12 in. (305 mm). E. Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material* — (Not Shown) - For D700 Series Floor-Ceiling Design, after installation of the ceiling runner (Item 2A), steel floor units to be sprayed with the thickness of material as specified in the individual D700 Series Design. The flutes of the steel floor units above the ceiling runner (Item 2A) shall be filled with spray-applied fire resistive material. As an alternate, the spray-applied fire resistive material in the flutes above the ceiling runner may be applied to follow the contour of the steel floor units. 2. Shaft Wall Assembly — The 1 hr or 2 hr fire rated gypsum board/steel stud shaft wall assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner described in the individual U400 or V400 Series Wall and Partition Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features:
detail. Joints in the layers of gypsum board shall be staggered. The inner two layers of gypsum are secured with two rows of drywall screws located 12 in. (305 mm) on center. The outer layer of gypsum board is secured with two rows of drywall screws located 8 in. (203) on center. All fasteners are staggered between layers and are of sufficient length to penetrate into the furring shelf. The hourly fire rating of the joint system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall.
3. Joint System — Max separation between bottom of the steel floor units (or bottom of the spray applied fire resistive material on the steel floor units) and top of gypsum board liner panels (at time of installation of joint system) is 1-1/2 in. (38 mm). Max horizontal separation between spray applied fire resistive material on structural support member and Z-furring shelf is 4 in. (102 mm). The joint system is designed to accommodate a max 50 percent compression or extension from its installed width as measured between the bottom plane of the steel floor units or spray-applied fire resistive material on the steel floor units and the top of the gypsum board liner panels. The joint system shall consist of forming and fill materials, as follows:
A. Forming Material* — Nom 1 in. (25 mm) thick strips of min 4 pcf (64 kg/m3) mineral wool batt insulation. On shaft side of wall, strips of mineral wool cut to width, compressed 50 percent in thickness and inserted cut-edge first within ceiling runner above the top of liner panel flush with the inside surface of liner panel. Adjoining lengths of batt to be tightly butted with butted seams spaced min 36 in. (914 mm) apart along the length of the joint. In addition, in D900 Series assemblies, and in D700 assemblies when the spray-applied fire resistive material in the flutes above the wall follows the contour of the steel deck, sections of mineral wool batt sized to attain a min compression rate of 50 percent in the thickness direction are firmly packed to completely fill the flutes of the steel floor or roof deck between the top of the ceiling runner and the steel deck or spray-applied fire resistive material. The mineral wool batt insulation in the flutes is to be installed flush with the gypsum board surface on the shaft side of the wall, and flush with the flange of the ceiling runner on the opposite side of wall. A1. Forming Material* — Plugs — As an alternate to Item 3A for the fluted area of steel floor or deck, preformed mineral wool plugs, formed to the shape of the flutes, are friction fit to completely fill the flutes above the ceiling runner. The plugs shall be installed flush with wall surface on shaft side of wall, and flush with leg of ceiling runner on structural member side of wall. Additional forming material, described in Item 3A2, to be used in conjunction with the plugs to fill the gap within the ceiling runner above the top of gypsum board liner panel. C. Steel Studs — C-H or E-shaped studs, min 4 in. (102 mm) wide by 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) deep, fabricated from 25 MSG galv steel, cut to lengths 1 in. (25 mm) less than floor to ceiling height and spaced 24 in. (610 mm) OC. When slotted ceiling runner specified in Item 2B2 is used the C-H-shaped studs cut in lengths 3/4 to 1-3/4 in. (19 to 44 mm) less than floor to ceiling height and spaced 24 in. (610 mm) OC.
D. Gypsum Board* — Nom 1 in. (25 mm) thick gypsum board liner panels. Panels cut 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) less in length than floor to ceiling height. Vertical edges inserted in H-shaped section of C-H or E studs. At the ends of the assembly, the free edge of the end panels are attached to the long leg of vertical J-runners (Item 2A) with 1-5/8 in. (41 mm) long Type S steel screws spaced max 12 in. (305 mm) OC.
E. Gypsum Board* — Nom 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick gypsum board applied in one or two layers for 1 hr and 2 hr fire rated assemblies, respectively. This gypsum board on the finished side of wall shall extend to a height nominally flush with the lowest elevation of the structural steel support, with the top edge of the layers staggered as shown in the detail and such that the gypsum board attachment screws at top edge of board penetrate into Z-furring (Item F). The screws attaching the gypsum board layers to the C-H studs shall be located 1 to 1-1/2 in. (25 to 38 mm) below the bottom of the ceiling runner or slotted ceiling track. No gypsum board attachment screws are to penetrate the ceiling runner or slotted ceiling track.
F. Z-Furring — Min 2 x 4 x 2 in. (51 by 102 by 51 mm) to max 2 x 8 x 2 in. (51 by 203 by 51 mm) by min 20 ga steel Z-furring shelf continuous along length of joint on structural member side of wall. Located nominally 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) (1 hr fire rated assembly) or 1-7/8 in. (48 mm) (2 hr fire rated assembly) above lowest elevation of sprayed structural member. The horizontal gap between edge of Z furring shelf and sprayed structural member at lowest elevation shall be min. ½ in. (13 mm) to max 4 in. (102 mm). Z furring secured to each wall stud on structural member side of wall with one min No. 8 sheet metal screw located nom ½ in. (13 mm) from top of furring leg. At splices, adjoining sections of Z furring shall overlap nom 4 in. (102 mm) and be secured at approx center of lap with two min No. 8 sheet metal screws located max 2 in. (51 mm) from each lip of the furring shelf. G. Such penetrations shall not exceed an aggregate area of 100 square inches (64,500 mm ) in any 100 square feet (9.3 m ) of ceiling area in assemblies tested without penetrations. 2. Membrane penetrations by listed electrical outlet boxes of any material are permitted provided such boxes have been tested for use fire- resistance-rated assemblies and are installed in accordance with the instructions included in the listing. 3. The annular space created by the penetration of a fire sprinkler provided it is covered by a metal escutcheon plate.

Floor or Wall Assembly -- The fire-rated gypsum wallboard/stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner specified in the individual U300 or U400 Series Wall and Partition Designs in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features:
A. Studs -- Wall framing may consist of either wood studs or steel channel studs. Wood studs to consist of nom 2 by 4 in. lumber spaced 16 in. OC. Steel studs to be min 2-1/2 in. wide and spaced max 24 in. OC.
B. Gypsum Board* -- Nom 5/8 in. thick gypsum wallboard, as specified in the individual Wall and Partition Design. Max diam of opening is 4 in.
2. Metallic Sleeve -- (Optional) -- Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 (or thinner) steel pipe cast into wall assembly with joint compound and installed flush with wall surfaces.
3. Electrical Nonmetallic Tubing+ --Nom 2 in. diam (or smaller) corrugated wall electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT) constructed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Tubing to be rigidly supported on both sides of wall assembly. A nom annular space of 3/4 in. is required within the firestop system.

The gypsum board type, thickness, number of layers, fastener type and sheet orientation shall be as specified in the individual U300 or U400 Series Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory. 1. Wall Assembly — The 1 or 2 fire-rated gypsum wallboard/stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner specified in the individual U300, U400 or V400 Series Wall and Partition Designs in the UL Fire Resitsnce Directory and shall include the following construction features.
A. Studs — Wall framing may consist of either wood studs or steel channel studs. Wood studs to consist of nom 2 by 4 in. (51 by 102 mm) lumber spaced 16 in. (406 mm) OC. Steel studs to be min 2-1/2 in. (64 mm) wide and
spaced max 24 in. (610 mm) OC. B. Gypsum Board* — Nom 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick gypsum board, with square or tapered edges. The gypsum board type, thickness, number of layers, fastener type and sheet orientation shall be as specified in the individual U300,
U400 or V400 Series Design in the UL Fire Resistance Directory. Max diam of opening is 5-1/2 in. (138 mm) when sleeve (Item 2) is employed. Max diam of opening is 4 in. (102 mm)when sleeve (Item 2) is not employed.
The F Rating of the firestop system is equal to the fire rating of the wall assembly. 2. Metallic Sleeve — (Optional) - Nom 4 in. (102 mm) diam (or smaller) steel electrical metallic tubing (EMT) or Schedule 5 (or heavier) steel pipe or min 0.016 in. thick (0.41 mm, No. 28 ga) galv steel sleeve installed flush with wall surfaces. The
annular space between steel sleeve and periphery of opening shall be min 0 in. (0 mm, point contact) to max 1 in. (25mm). When Schedule 5 steel pipe or EMT is used, sleeve may extend up to 18 in. (457 mm) beyond the wall surfaces.
3. Cables — Aggregate cross-sectional area of cable in opening to be max 45 percent of the cross-sectional area of the opening. The annular space between the cable bundle and the periphery of the opening to be min 0 in. (0 mm, point
contact) to max 1 in. (25 mm) Cables to be rigidly supported on both sides of the wall assembly. Any combination of the following types and sizes of copper conductor cables may be used.
A. Max 7/C No. 12 AWG with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation and jacket. B. Max 25 pair No. 24 AWG telephone cable with PVC insulation and jacket. C. Type RG/U coaxial cable with polyethylene (PE) insulation and PVC jacket having a max outside diameter of ½ in. (13 mm). D. Multiple fiber optical communication cable jacketed with PVC and having a max OD of 5/8 in. (16 mm). E. Through Penetrating Products*— Max three copper conductor No. 8 AWG . Metal-Clad Cable+. AFC CABLE SYSTEMS INC F. Max 3/C (with ground)(or smaller) No. 8 AWG copper conductor cable with PVC insulation and jacketing. G. Max 3/4 in. (19 mm) diam copper ground cable with or without a PVC jacket. H. Fire Resistive Cables* - Max 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) diam single conductor or multi conductor Type MI cable. A min 1/8 in. (3 mm) separation shall be maintained between MI cables and any other types of cable. Through Penetrating Product* - Any cables, Metal-Clad Cable+ or Armored Cable+ currently Classified under the Through Penetrating Products category. See Through Penetrating Product (XHLY) category in the Fire Resistance Directory for names of manufacturers.
4. Fill, Void or Cavity Material*— Sealant or Putty — Fill material applied within the annulus, flush with each end of the steel sleeve or wall surface. Fill material installed symmetrically on both sides of the wall. A min 5/8 in. (16 mm) thickness of
sealant is required for the 1 or 2 hr F Rating . An additional 1/2 in. (13 mm) diam bead of fill material shall be applied around the perimeter of sleeve on both sides of the wall whensleeve extends beyond surface of wall.

2. Through-Penetrants — One nonmetallic pipe, conduit or tubing to be installed within the firestop system. The annular space between pipe and periphery of opening shall be min 0 in (point contact) to max 1/2 in. Pipe or conduit to be rigidly supported on both sides of the wall assembly.
The following types and sizes of nonmetallic pipes may be used: A. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipe — Nom 10 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 solid-core or cellular core PVC pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping system. B. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) Pipe — Nom 10 in. diam (or smaller) SDR13.5 CPVC pipe for use in closed (process or supply) piping systems. C. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Pipe — Nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 solid-core or cellular core ABS pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping systems. D. Flame Retardant Polypropylene (FRPP) Pipe — Nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 FRPP pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping system. E. Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Pipe — Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) PVDF pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping system. When max 6 in. diam pipe is used, T Rating is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall. When nom 8 in. or 10 in. diam pipe is used, T Rating is 0 hr.

3. Firestop Device* — Firestop Collar — Firestop collar shall be installed in accordance with the accompanying installation instructions. Collar to be installed and latched around the pipe and secured to both sides of the wall using the anchor hooks provided with the collar. (Minimum two anchor hooks for 1-1/2 and 2 in. diam pipes, three anchor hooks for 3 and 4 in. diam pipes, four anchor hooks for 6 in diam pipes, ten anchor hooks for 8 in. diam pipes and twelve anchor hooks for 10 in. diam pipes) The anchor hooks are to be secured to the surface of wall with 3/16 in. diam by 2-1/2 in. long steel toggle bolts along with washers. As an alternate for pipe sizes of nom 4 in. diam or less, min No. 10 by 1-1/2 in. long drywall or laminate screws with min 3/4 in. steel washers may be used. When the drywall or laminate screw is used, T Rating shall not exceed 1 hr.
4. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* — Sealant - (Not Shown) — Min 1/2 in. thickness of sealant applied within the annular space for nom 8 in. and 10 in. diam pipes, flush with each side of wall. Sealant in annular space is optional for max 6 in. diam pipes. A min 1/4 in. thickness of sealant is required withing the annular space, flush with each side of wall, to attain the L Ratings for max 6 in. diam pipes.
FIRE-RESISTIVE SYSTEM NOTES FR1. all systems listed by underwriters laboratories, i.c.c./n.e.r.,
gypsum association and other recognized testing agencies shall be installed per their report and manufacturer's written recommendations. where report and manufacturer's written recommendations differ from information shown on these drawings the most restrictive requirement applies.
FR2. substitutions for listed systems shall:
A. be listed by u.l., i.c.c/n.e.r., gypsum association, or another recognized testing agency... and ...
B. comply with product substitution requirements in the specifications.
FR3. up-to-date copies of all fire-resistive rated systems (ie: u.l., i.c.c./n.e.r., gypsum association, etc.) are to be maintained, in hardcopy form, on site throughout construction. copies shall be readily accessible to construction and inspection personel.
FR4. fire-resistive systems shown in drawings are representative of the type of systems to be used in this project. these drawings do NOT contain an exhaustive list of the Fire-resistive systems required. Where floors, roofs, walls, Structural frame, penetrants, joints, etc. Require a fire-resistive rating, by these drawings or governing codes they are to be protected by a fire-resistive system tested and approved for each specific use. all cost for use of Correct fire-resistive system are to be included in base bid. Firestopping: The work is to be installed by a contractor with at least one of the following qualifications: 1) UL Approved Contractor 2) FM 4991 Approved Contractor 3) Firm with not less than 3 years experience with complete fire stop installations. 4) Successfully completed not less than 3 comparable scale projects using similar systems.

with the dimension of 50 in. The hourly F rating of the firestop system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly in which it is installed.
2. Steel Duct — Nom 24 in. by 48 in. (or smaller) No. 24 gauge (or heavier) galv steel duct to be installed within the firestop system. The annular space shall be min 0 (point contact) in. to a max 2 in. Duct to be rigidly supported on both sides of the
wall assembly. 3. Firestop System — The firestop system shall consist of the following:
A. Fill, Void or Cavity Material*—Sealant — Min 5/8 in. thickness of fill material applied within annulus flush with both surfaces of wall. At point contact location, a min 1/2 in. diam bead of fill material shall be applied to the wall/duct interface on both

B. Steel Retaining Angle — No. 18 MSG (0.048 in.) galv steel angles cut to fit contour of duct with a 2 in. overlap on the duct and a min 1 in.overlap on the gypsum board assembly on both sufaces of wall. 2 in. leg of angle secured to duct with min No. 8 by 3/4
in. long sheet metal screws, spaced a max of 6 in. OC. When bead of fill material is used at joint contact locations, angles shall be installed prior to full material curing.

JOINT MANUFACTURER SINGLE SOURCE PENETRATION AND
SM1. Single source manufacturer requirement -- fill, void or cavity material used in listed through-penetration firestop systems and listed joint systems shall be from the same mfr. exception: penetrants and joints that require protection systems, not provided by indicated manufacturer shall be protected by a U.L. listed system tested & approved for use at that penetrant or joint.
SM2. Drawings have been prepared using information & systems from specified technologies inc. comparable systems from alternate manufacturers listed in the u.l. fire resistance directory also may be used when the following conditions are satisfied:
A. Contractor certifies that alternate manufacturer provides U.L. listed systems for all of the through- penetration firestop systems and joint systems.
B. Contractor certifies that alternate manufacturer provides U.L. listed systems at each type of penetration and joint system encountered on this project.
C. Contractor certifies that penetrations and joint systems by all trades (gypsum board, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, special systems, etc.) shall be single source (the same alternate manufacturer).
SM3. All penetrations and joints in fire-rated assemblies be shall be protected with a through-penetration firestop system or joint system tested and U.L. listed for that type of penetration or joint.
