School dressing is a debate that has been going on for decades if not centuries with many claiming that school uniforms are better than other forms of dressing in a school compound. An improved learning climate where students place a stronger focus on academic success is one advantage of having students dressed in uniforms. Schools also become safe and students cannot find other ways of hiding weapons and inappropriate tools in school. However, there are those that feel like making students wear a common uniform is an infringement of their freedom right and that students have a right to wear whatever they want. They also feel like, a school is like a public space where people learn to live with their differences thus students shouldn't be allowed to wear a common outfit but should be left to accommodate the difference existing between them. Although this debate has been going on for a long time, this paper is going to argue the importance of creating a standard learning environment for students. Both sides agree that school uniform policies are meant to provide a haven for students and also organize them accordingly. "Many educators and also people in the community firmly believe that if everyone in school dresses alike or similarly there will be less violence" (Wendell, 2002). This is a way of eliminating injustices in schools such as bullying and being involved with bad groups within the school. Additionally, when schools are safe for students learning becomes conducive and the students excel in academics. The consequences of bullying and unsafe schools are very clear and have negative effects on students when it comes to their academics. Comment by Kvinge, Krystal: Good job using a sample. The argument against school uniforms is merely centered on the differences that fashion clothes present on students. According to (Deane, 2015) in the city people are living together as strangers and surpass their differences on daily basis this should not be different from schools. Students should learn to live together and put their differences aside because that is what the society out their will demand of them when they are outside the school. Do society and the school environment demand differently from students and can students think and like mature individuals. Student uniform policies should not be made compulsory but voluntary to any school that wishes to. Comment by Kvinge, Krystal: Only (2015) should be in parentheses. Even though this sentence ends in a period, it is formatted as a question. There are very many reasons as to why some people via school uniforms while others do not. But the decision to accept or deny school uniforms should be left on students and not policymakers. The question of whether students can behave the way adults behave in society is not necessary because they cannot. Some students would want to put on home clothes to school for the purpose of showing off they come from good families but how will such circumstances affect that student whose family cannot afford decent classy clothes. School uniforms should be made legal and recommended for all students so as to maintain a balance between the different classes present in the school. This is to reduce the psychological stresses that may affect a students' performance in class. Comment by Kvinge, Krystal: Overly wordy; remove unnecessary phrases. Are you recommending that both Anderson and Deane would be happy if students could choose individually whether or not to wear a uniform? Does that satisfy Anderson’s concerns about safety?

The Rogerian model was helpful in letting me understand both sides of the argument. It was effective in acknowledging how both sides perceive the issue of school uniform

The Rogerian model is useful when writing a comparing and contrasting or persuasive essay but not an argumentative essay. This is because in an argumentative essay one is required to persuade the reader on one side and not provide any solution.
