I want to review the expectations of the writing assignment in our course for you. For some of you this is basic. I realize that many of your instructors have given you certain types of formats to use. I try to be consistent with the Ashford Writing Center for the express purpose of giving you training in a standard academic writing style, and preparing you for master level writing requirements. We use the APA writing style according to the latest APA manual (6th Edition). Yet at the same time, APA is really for manuscripts, preparing them for publication. Not many of our weekly papers or final papers will go to print, nor can we call them manuscripts (200-600 pages). So let's be clear, APA as a style, is more of a guide, than a hard and fast rule. We will always default to APA, but Ashford has also taken it upon themselves to clarify some general points about APA and make it easier for students to comply and have a standard method from which to write. Make sure you review the APA 6th Edition guidelines, and the Ashford University APA writing guidelines (found in the Writing Center). Let's review the writing components of each week's assignments (note, the number of pages and resources may change from week to week, the following is just an example):

The paper

· Must be four to five double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style.

· Must include a separate title page with the following:

· Title of paper

· Student’s name

· Course name and number

· Instructor’s name

· Date submitted

· Must use at least three scholarly sources in addition to the course text.

· The  Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.

· The paper must have a thesis statement! This is a single sentence or two that sums up what the paper is about and your position (if one is to be produced) on the subject. (e.g. “This paper will reveal the five major elements of a project: Anticipation, Initiation, Execution, Release, and Completion; as well as the future direction of project management metrics”). This statement should be at the end of a first paragraph or Introduction paragraph of the paper.

· Must document (citations and references) all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

· Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

· Must contain a clear and comprehensive thesis statement as a part of the Introduction

· Must use appropriate Seriation (Headings) according to the levels appropriate for the size and length of the paper.

· Basic Seriation must include a Title Page Title, an Introduction, a Main Body of Text Title (can be the repeated title from the Cover Page), a Conclusion, and a Reference

· Must be printed in 12pt New Times Roman, black with no color or highlighting (in some media assignments appendix additions or displays may be in color as a part of the assignment).

· Citations must be used for every Reference and every Citation must have a noted Reference on the Reference page.

· Pages will be numbered starting with the first page, right side top corner, as a part of the Header (not the main body of text)
