Please pick one of the questions below: • Explore your family’s work history. Interview a parent or

grandparent about their work experiences and relate them to some of the readings we have done in class, especially Zweig and Scott and Leonhardt. What do your family members’ experiences say about social class and mobility in the United States today and the quest for the American Dream?

• What social class do you belong to? Please reflect on this topic and back up your assertions with references to our class readings, especially Zweig and Scott and Leonhardt.

Structure of Paper: All papers should be approximately 4-5 pages in length, double- spaced. In the past, students have had difficulty in how to structure their paper.   I recommend the first part of the paper should be citing the facts about either you or your family’s history, social class background. This should be about 1/3 of your paper. The remaining 2/3rds of the paper should be utilizing this information to interact with the readings. One student stated – “kind of like an expos paper.” You should utilize the readings to inform the insights and conclusions you come to. I can give very general advice on the papers but will not review papers before they are submitted. As with all writing assignments at the collegiate level, spelling, grammar and general written composition does count. If you would like to review these issues, I strongly recommend that you meet with one of the consultants at the Rutgers Writing Centers (https://rlc.rutgers.edu/student-info/ group-and-individual-academic-support/writing-coaching).   Research and Citations: You should not do any outside research for this paper. Please only use readings and or visual media from the syllabus or that we discussed in class. Please provide simple citations for quotes

and concepts taken from any text you use. For example if you cite Zweig (either a direct quote or a idea/concept) you must cite (Zweig, p.___)   For visual media you can simply cite the name of the film.   Submission: Click on the "Submit" tab on this page.  Please submit on Canvas as a Word document. All papers that are late will be marked down. One grade will be deducted for every 24-hour period (or portion thereof) your paper is late. That is, a B paper will turn into a C paper if it is up to 24 hours late, and into a D paper if it is up to 48 hours late.
