‘-fantastic reds and yellows and blues spiraling across an ebony surface like limp plastic or dark lithe Naugahyde.’

In the scene above, Stephen King is trying to introduce his audience to some of the physical attributes of the creature meting terror on the four friends. As evident from most horror films, the horror characters sometimes are creatures that cannot be defined as humans, objects, or otherwise. Coupled with the fact that these tormenting creatures are often introduced to other characters before others, the need for one to explain what they have seen to those that are yet to see the horror informs the use of descriptive adjectives like the color as seen here.

Comments:

P1.1 incorporate the quote from "The Raft" into your paragraph. See this resource: https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tipsand-tools/quotations/

1. craft a topic sentence that acts like a thesis for the entire paragraph.

2. walk the reader through the meaning you get here by recalling words and phrases from the quote. The reader shouldn't have to keep looking back at the quote to see how you got to this meaning: you should re-quote the most important phrases or words in the applicable sentences.

3. quote a scholarly source to show how it applies to "The Raft" and really walk the reader through how that occurs.
