Please READ the Instructions for the Assignment

If you can’t read & FOLLOW the simple instructions for the assignment, then I won’t accept/read your assignment, which will result in a 0 (NO GRADE) for the assignment.

 Parameters for the Assignment:

1) Choose any current event, dated within the last 3 months, which involves one of the following industries: Dairy, Beef, Sheep, Goat, Swine, Poultry, Horse, or Pet Industry

2) Copy or print the current event you have chosen & attach the current event to your assignment: • I WON’T GRADE YOUR WORK IF YOU DON’T PROVIDE A COPY OF THE CURRENT EVENT

NO CURRENT EVENT = NO GRADE

3) FORMAT OF YOUR PAPER: Follow this format EXACTLY; otherwise I won’t grade your paper! • Page Layout -- Margins: All 1 inch margins • Paragraph -- Spacing: 2.0 (double) spaced – (make sure to click option to remove space after paragraph)

• Font:

4) You must turn in your assignment at the BEGINNING OF CLASS ON THE DUE DATE: • Make sure you turn it in STAPLED in the following order:

o Your written assignment on top (your paper is the first 2-3 pages) o The current event attached behind your assignment o The rubric attached behind the current event (the rubric is the last page)

 Actual Assignment: 1) Write a short summary of the current event (this shouldn’t be longer then about a paragraph in length):

• Summarize the event using YOUR OWN WORDS • Keep this simple and brief, but include all the important info, like: Who, What, When, Where, Why, & How?

2) After summarizing, write YOUR REACTION to the current event:

• Here are some questions that you should be thinking of to help create your reaction: o What do you think of the current event? (good, bad, or indifferent – take a clear stance on the event)

- How did it make you feel? (did it bring rise to any emotions) - Has this current event changed any of your previous feelings or opinions?  If you had no previous knowledge of the event what are your feelings or opinions now?

o How will this event affect different populations? - Will it affect large or small populations of people? - Does it affect the world? - Does it have a smaller, more local affect within the community?  Will it affect your community, your school, your family or you directly?

o How will this event affect the future of the industry itself? - Will it have a positive or negative impact on the industry? - Will that impact have a ripple effect then seen by other industries or people?

o What is the end result due to this event? - Will there be change made due to this event?  If not, why not?  If there will be changes made, will they be good or bad?

- If there were any conflicts due to this event are there any resolutions or benefits?

o Do you have any final or closing thoughts about the current event you chose?

3) Make sure to write your actual assignment in essay form. It should be one fluid paper with multiple paragraphs: • Intro Paragraph (summary) • Body Paragraphs (reaction) • Conclusion Paragraph (closing thoughts)
