The best way to learn something new is to experience it personally. The next best way is to talk to someone who has had the experience. This assignment is designed to provide the background for you to make the most of that opportunity.
Instructions
Carefully consider the criminal justice agency that you find most interesting with respect to diversity issues. Some examples are a police department or sheriff’s office, a prosecutor’s office, a public defender’s office, a corrections agency, or a probation or parole office. You might want to select the type of agency in which you have a career interest. If you are currently working in the criminal justice system, select a different agency or department so that you can broaden your exposure to diversity issues that others in the criminal justice system are facing. If possible, select an agency close to your home so that you can gain insight into diversity issues in your area.
1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
2. Write a two-page (or 1,000 word) paper that addresses the following:
a. Which criminal justice agency are you considering choosing? Why?
b. Based on your own background, what do you anticipate will be the most common and most serious issues that your criminal justice professional deals with concerning the topic of diversity? Give examples where possible of how these issues might present themselves and how you think the issues should be handled.
c. What do you hope to learn from this assignment?
3. Make sure that your assignment is in proper APA format.
4. When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor by the end of the workshop.
