Background Information
Criminal justice professionals are likely to encounter a wide variety of diversity issues in their professional careers, both in their workplace as well as with members of the public they serve. While the media of today focus most intensely on racial discrimination issues, other diversity issues commonly encountered by criminal justice professionals include differences in culture, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, national origin, disability, and more.
Instructions
1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
2. Read Chapters 1-2 from our textbook and respond to the following:
a. Explain in your own words the concepts of intersectionality, interlocking oppression, micro-aggression, and privilege.
b. Give an example of each term from your own life experience.
3. Please defend your answer and be substantive in your response. It is expected that this initial posting be a minimum of four brief paragraphs (or 50 words each) in length, one paragraph for each concept.
4. Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.
5. Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, and post on two different days in this discussion, by the end of the workshop.
