1. Dharanikota - Discussion: Enterprise Information System
An enterprise information system is any information system that improves the functions of the business processes by integrating data processed in various departments. The information systems collect, store, process, and share the information with the stakeholders.
McDonald's is among fortune 1000 companies in the US. It uses delivery and kiosks that are driven by technology. Moreover, technology is used in McDonald's, from stock control, research, training, administration, and office work to provide speedy services (Jonathan, 2019). To improve customer experience, the company has embraced AI through voice technology to reshape its interactions with customers and turn around the company to avoid being eclipsed by changes in technology. In its restaurants, digital menus have been deployed, and this helps customers to effectively place an order on menu boards (BBC, 2019).
Additionally, McDonald's utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize the recruitment process. In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, the company has tapped into smartphones that people are at ease with using (Jonathan, 2019). This technology enables the customer to self-serve in ordering foods and drinks. In addition, big data from its millions of customers is analyzed using machine learning tools to make meal suggestions on trending items based on factors such as time of day, menu items, and weather (BBC, 2019).
McDonald's voice technology implemented in 'drive-thru' screens has made the food ordering process efficient. This technology has been integrated with their mobile applications to give customers a quality user experience. Complexity in restaurants has been considerably reduced by streamlining operations in the restaurants. The digital transformation at McDonald's has seen its engagements to a more customer-facing outfit by use of technology (Jonathan, 2019).
To better utilize its vast customer base, there is a need to adopt data cloud data warehouses to integrate various data sets. This will help the company to 'prepare for the future.

Any kind of information system that improves the business processes of an enterprise by integration is considered an enterprise information system (EIS). This means providing high-quality service in most situations, handling a large volume of data, and being capable of serving an enterprise or organization of some complexity. An EIS is appropriate for all departments and levels within an organization. When we use the word enterprise, we mean a number of different things. The term is generally used to refer to multi-national corporations and public sector organizations of significant size. Nevertheless, the term has come to mean practically anything since it has recently been coined as a company buzzword. The infrastructure provided by enterprise information systems facilitates the integration and coordination of business processes on a sound technological foundation (Imamuddin, 2021).
Technology is important for businesses because it helps to drive growth and improve operations. Technology is crucial to all industries and companies because it facilitates better business communication, enhances production, keeps inventory up to date, and keeps financial records up to date. Many people believe that technology is important in innovation, but this is not the case. When it comes to business, there are two primary uses for the technology: to maintain the status quo (such as a website) and to create something new that propels the company forward (Hilario et. al., 2021).
Information systems assist decision-makers in a company in making informed decisions that are beneficial to the company. Because it provides current data, historical data, and trend analysis, information technology aids in the preparation of data for all areas of the business. Create a Technology Usage Agreement for your company's employees. Include issues of compliance such as inappropriate web surfing, data or music downloading policies, and data confidentiality in your checklist. Visits to website categories known to contain viruses, such as torrent sites, gambling websites, and file-sharing websites, are prohibited. Create a comprehensive information technology strategy. Systematic replacement of aging workstations, as well as methods for evaluating emerging technologies, should be addressed in this plan. An information system should be able to provide a basic map of how it will operate today and, in the future, taking into consideration the rapidly changing nature of the industry. These are all things that can be done to make information systems better (Han, 2021).

Application software is customized computer programs are designed to handle particular computing operations. In contrast, computer hardware performs activities such as output, input, storage, and processing activities that are majorly executed courtesy of the application software. On the other hand, the operating system controls the computer's hardware and acts as an interface to the application software. Some of the functions done by the operating system to the application software include managing files, processing tasks, and system memory, among others.
Mobile devices have enhanced the roles of individuals whose tasks involve more traveling. Also, most mobile devices are economical to use in terms of factors such as speed, energy consumption, and space. However, these mobile devices are susceptible to misuse as workers can also deploy them in their activities. Furthermore, these devices tend to be more expensive to acquire and maintain (Sundram et al., 2018).
Proprietary software essentially is a particular computer application owned by a specific entity such as an organization; it is advantageous since it serves uniquely, and you can get precisely what you aspire. It has the limitation of being too costly in terms of time and resources. Software as a service refers to a program that facilitates businesses to application software delivered by the web. It is advantageous to embrace since it manifests lower costs and is easy to use (Syed, 2021). It is characterized by limitations such as data insecurity and lower performance. Open-source application is a software platform that majorly comes with a source code; it can be accessed and modified by anyone. Some of its advantages are that it requires lesser hardware expenses and proves to be the software of high quality. However, this application may at times turn to be challenging to use and may also pose compatibility issues.
Software upgrades turn out to be an exciting trend to me and many; this is because it enhances and improves the taste of browsing (Barros-Justo et al., 2019).

In order for an application programme to interact with computer hardware, it must abide by the rules and procedures that have been programmed into the operating system. The operating system is composed of a set of rules and procedures that are used to interface between an application programme and computer hardware. The operating system (OS) frequently serves as a link between user programmes and hardware. If the operating system is the only program that can interact with hardware, the likelihood of a user programme misusing hardware will be reduced. System calls are the terms used to refer to calls made to the operating system (Tsiknas,2021).
Operating systems perform three primary functions: (1) managing the computer's resources, such as the central processing unit (CPU), RAM, hard disc drives, and printers; (2) creating a user interface; and (3) executing and providing services for application programs. We create a user interface and then run software on the computer. Employees can access company data and resources via mobile devices without being tied to a single location thanks to mobile technology. When employees are working in the field, they have the ability to essentially take their office with them. This allows them to stay in touch while also increasing their productivity.
The primary reason for the invention of cell phones was to satisfy one of the most fundamental human needs, namely, the need to remain connected. Without a doubt, technological advancements have had a positive impact on humanity. With the ability to connect with anyone, anywhere, and at any time, cell phones have completely transformed the telecommunications industry, allowing us to communicate with anyone, at any time. Although an open platform offers greater flexibility, it can also be more difficult to operate and maintain than a closed platform. However, proprietary software is easier to use, but it restricts your options and comes at a greater financial cost. Software publishers have embraced the as-a-service model to its fullest extent. The advantages of SaaS include cost savings, ease of maintenance, and mobility. Security, contractual obligations, and a loss of control are some of the disadvantages. When it comes to SaaS applications, proper software asset management is essential (Shafique,2020).
A trend which I would want is the Internet of Things. IoT) is one of the most significant technological trends to have emerged in recent years. Internet of Things is a concept that simply put, is the idea that all technological devices can be linked together, both to the internet and to one another, in an attempt to create the perfect union between the physical and digital worlds (Abir,2020).
