Paper: Design Thinking Workshop Agenda

Summary:

Using the product or service you selected in Part 1, create a multi-day agenda for a workshop that would have been likely used to create it. Be sure to list the right attendees, inputs, tasks/tools, and outputs of the workshop. Estimate a duration for each task during the event as well as for follow-on activities

Watching the video, How to Run a Design Thinking Workshop will assist you in writing this paper.

PART 1

Design Thinking Applied to Household Products and Services.

The globe has been witnessing increased security concerns over the years. Such a state of affairs calls for innovative and adaptive systems in homes and workplaces, among many other areas in the course of existence. There have been a number of security innovations and products within the home environment in recent days, but some are not yet at par with the customer requirements. A critical product that seems to set itself apart in security systems is the smart Home Security System. Sharma et al. (2018) detail that the device is backed by IoT efficiency allowing authorized persons to easily access areas in which they are manning while limiting unauthorized persons from the same. The product has a lot of functionalities within the home environment.

Functionalities

One of them is intrusion detection. The device is capable of detecting unauthorized entry over others. This system is fitted with sensors integrated with a Windows motions detector and cameras that constantly record any entry into the premeditated system and is capable of sending real-time notifications to the smartphone of the homeowner or any other device that is connected to this particular device(Budijono et al.,2014).

The other functionality is video surveillance. The smart home security system entails or makes use of cameras, high definition and that have been placed in strategic areas both within and outside the house so as to watch over the house. By adopting IoT technologies, then one can get a live feed or footage sent to his mobile app or even web page further to this, so as to provide extra security to the premises, the camera can be set to that motion triggers a scheduled alarm to keep alert of entry or exit within the said house.

Another is the ability to monitor and control the premises remotely. Škrgić et al. (2019) argue that in the event of any security breach within the environment being monitored, then a notification or SMS is triggered, after which it is sent to the user of the said system. In addition, this system is such that it is capable of controlling access in certain ways, such as the use of sensor sensitivity adjustment management of access codes and even checking out of certain sensors and devices within this system. Another functionality of the home-based smart security system is that it can monitor environmental changes within the house or surrounding areas by monitoring parameters such as carbon monoxide levels and even temperature. This allows it to alert the homeowner, and even in many other cases, it can be integrated to trigger such things as smoke alarms within the premises environment.

In addition, the last functionality that is associated with this system is the home automation integration. This system is capable of adjusting the room temperature, turning on lights, unlocking doors, and even providing convenience. Such functionalities increase the overall experience of the home environment.

Distinction From Competitors

A number of differences can be realized from the competitors of this product. To start with, this system makes use of artificial intelligence. Making use of artificial algorithms within its functionalities, makes it highly dependable. In such a way, by accumulating the history of given data over time, it can then learn patterns and behaviors with time. In such a case, it becomes more possible to distinguish between what can be considered normal and regular activities against threats to the premises in which it has been installed.

In addition to this, this system is also capable of facial recognition. By the incorporation of face detection technology, the system can alert the user when there are unfamiliar faces within the premises. Such a situation allows the user to give personalized access permission to the premises manned by the system. More importantly, this technology is designed so that it seamlessly integrates with other smart home devices. This means that the system has higher interoperability which allows for more unified and unique security management within the home environment.

Another feature is that of price reliability and ease of use. As per Škrgić(2019), this technology is very competitive with earlier systems in terms of price, reliability, and ease of use. This means that while it is easy to learn its use, it is also pocket friendly in terms of purchase compared to other products that provide similar services. This uniqueness, even in terms of the price, sets apart the good workability of the system.

Which Are the Innovative Customer Interactions

One of these innovative customer interactions is voice control. The smart home security system is designed so that it supports voice commands and, in such a way, allows homeowners to interact with the system hands-free. The system is empowered so that homeowners, in this case, customers, can interact with it hands-free. The system is in such a way that they can arm or disarm it, check its status, and, more importantly, it can review the video footage by making use of voice commands. This allows it to be able to be used by those people who may have one or another disability.

Another unique innovative feature that increases interactivity with the customer is the fact that of geofencing. This means that the system can detect the homeowner's location by using the connected smartphone they are using. In such a case, the system is capable of harming or disarming itself. This depends on the proximity of the homeowner and, in such a case, eliminates the need for manual actions to control it.

In addition, the system in question can make contextual notifications to the user. The system combines algorithms and artificial intelligence capability so that it can provide the user or the owner with relevant information that, in one way or the other, affects the security of the homeowner. For instance, the system is in such a way that if the owner or another user leaves the door open for longer hours, then it becomes possible for either the system to close the door or send a reminder to the user of the unclosed door. Integrated smart locks would allow the closing of the door if it had been left so for a longer duration of time than expected.

Another innovative feature that makes this production appealing and more usable for the customer is the fact that it is capable of intelligent scheduling. In intelligent scheduling, it may include such things as keeping the system armed at particular times when there is a probability of possible threats. It can also help disarm it when the homeowner is expected to return home. In such a way, the system is taught to adapt to the schedule of the home, and hence it can deliver excellent results.

In conclusion, smart home security systems empowered with advanced AI are game changers in the field of home security and, more specifically, as a designer item. It has unique features that are competitive enough to stand out in the market. Integrated with AI capabilities, the system allows for facial recognition to be connected to smart devices. Among other things, the system is capable of geo-fencing, contractual notifications, and customizing scheduling to the user's needs. The features so mentioned make it stand out competitively enough and capable of comprehensive home security solutions in the home environment.
