Assignments 4 – Literature Review

Due June 11 11:59 PM

Assignment Instructions

All students should have been assigned to their respective teams and their PEP Components.

1. Find and submit (10) Peer Reviewed, (10) Non Peer Reviewed & (5) Video Resources for your assigned components

a. When you are reviewing the literature resources, make it a point to jot down the high-level topics that are being covered. This will provide you with an outline for what you should be including in your Slide Decks for your assigned components which will be your next assignment.

b. Focus on getting high quality information, the wider variety of topics your literature covers, the easier it will be for you to build your slide decks, don’t focus on getting to the minimum required number of articles or you will have a hard time figuring out the next assignment.

c. Furthermore, the resources you found may not go in depth for a topic you perceive to be important, you can find additional articles that can provide you the in-depth information you need to build your slide deck in the next assignment. This is how you develop your search criteria and build a resource library.

d. It is also important to ensure you are coordinating with your team to review the content that all have managed to gathered to ensure there is harmony. Make sure you document and incorporate the feedback you receive from your team members and include it in your synopsis you submit to Canvas.

2. The next step is to start reviewing the literature and summarizing it in a document, create your summary by the sub topic you come across, as multiple articles may cover the same topic but have different content that you would like to incorporate in your research.

3. Add in notes about what you found useful in the article, any notable facts or conclusions that the project team you will be reviewing this with may find useful, any processes or standards you would like your team to adhere to while they execute the project etc. Be sure to include citations in MLA format and reference your articles.

4. Identify any cross functional collaboration requirements for each assigned topic and include them in your synopsis submission. Talk to your team peers and show them the outline to see if they need to work with you on that sub topic.

a. For eg. Schedules should be reviewed by the estimator in order to build his estimate, time durations play an important role in figuring out the cost of executing a certain task. This is should be identified as a requirement in the cost & schedule element, Milestone management section should identify a collaboration session between scheduling team and estimating team prior to the deadline to ensure that the estimates and schedule are aligned for successful project delivery. How many more such cross functional collaborations can your team find?

5. Create a slide deck with an outline of what you intend on including in your slide deck submission & the references you will be utilizing. (1 per each assigned element) and submit on Yellowdig for peer review. Make sure to upload your topic in the relevant thread for that same topic. This submission will be reviewed by your peers who are working on the same element as you are.

6. Extra Credit –

Reach out to an industry professional to review the outline you have created for your assigned topics and provide a short summary of the feedback you received from them in order to receive 20% extra credit for this assignment. This is a great networking opportunity for you to talk and learn about the industry and bridge the gap between your academic and professional careers. Be sure to provide them an introduction of what you are trying to achieve from your project and what you need from them.

Assignment Submission Requirements-

1. Please submit a slide deck on the Yellowdig thread for your assigned element with an

a. Outline of your subtopics for each of your assigned PEP element,

b. References within their respective categories

c. Feedback you received from any industry professionals.

2. Please submit a (3) Page summary on Canvas for each assigned element for your consolidated research. Be sure to include a section on the cross functional collaboration requirements that are applicable for your element. This submission will be reviewed by instructors for this course.

3. Provide (6) Peer Reviews on YellowDig for any elements other than the ones assigned to you. This will help you understand the overall picture and allow you to share your learnings with your team. Work within your team to identify who will be reviewing which elements in order to minimize overlap.

The assignment objective is to allow you to understand the dynamics of a workplace where you are working within a team to deliver a specific objective as a part of a wider team hired to deliver a larger overall objective. This means you need to gain the confidence of your peers in your ability to perform your assigned tasks and collaborate cross functionally with those that are working in sync to deliver parallel objectives. When you collaborate with the peers in your course (working on different elements) you will have questions on any sub topics that they should align with you on prior to finalizing the PEP.

We highly recommend you go through the articles below in the Productivity Pointers below, this will help you to optimize your time and meet the objectives throughout this course & professionally.

Examples & Productivity Pointers

I wanted to share some examples I found from a quick google search, I spent about 10-15 mins on each of these articles:

Pointer #1 - I used the search function with multiple criteria meeting my expectations, read assignment instructions for pointers on how I come up with my search criteria.

Pointer #2 - The ASU Library tool to get free access to paid documents. They also have a similar google search style filter that allows you to search for open access articles that you would otherwise have to pay for. You could also use Google Scholar Search to find the article and then access it using ASU library

Pointer #3 - I also pay attention to the document source, associations, sponsors & references used as it leads me to further articles that can meet my search criteria.

Below are some good examples for peer reviewed and non peer reviewed articles for questions from the previous assignment-
