Multiculturalism in the News - Assignment Overview
Assignment
Name
What to Do/Submit?
Week 1 N/A N/A Week 2 N/A N/A Week 3 News Stories Each team member will:
1- select one news story relevant to multicultural conflict
2- submit a one-paragraph summary of the selected news story
3-one-paragraph of explaining how that particular news story
illustrates a multicultural conflict (e.g. identify the cultural conflict
and the groups involved)
(note then that each person will write two paragraphs: one for the
summary and another for the explanation of the multicultural
conflict)
You will submit all of your news stories in a single document. If
there are 5 members in your team, the document should have 5
different news stories.
Please note that this is a pre-selection. For next week, you will select
one of these as the news story for your project.
Week 4 Thesis statement
and annotated
bibliography
Choose one news story from the News Stories for Multiculturalism
in the News assignment, due in Week Three, to use for the final team
project due in Week Six.
Gain instructor approval for the selected news story.
Develop an annotated bibliography. Each team member must list a
minimum of two sources from peer-reviewed journals that relate to
the news story.
Write a clearly worded thesis statement of no more than 350 to 700
words for the Multiculturalism in the News assignment due in Week
Six.
Format your annotated bibliography and thesis statement according
to APA guidelines.
Read the instructions above. Please note that you need to include
both a thesis statement and an Annotated Bibliography. The
instructions specify that the thesis statement should not be longer
than 350 to 700 words. This somewhat contradicts the thesis
generator application which presents the thesis statement as a
sentence (which we assume will be much less than 350 words), thus
a much shorter assignment. However, I want you to include, along
your thesis statement a brief paragraph in which you specify and
explain the multicultural conflict. That is, providing a rationale for
why there is a multicultural conflict. See the examples of
multicultural conflict which I posted in the announcements section. I
wrote a brief paragraph for each in which I explain the multicultural
conflict. That is exactly what you need to do. Add, after your thesis
statement (one sentence as explained in the thesis generator) a brief
paragraph explaining the multicultural conflict; that is, the perceived
or real incompatibility of values, beliefs, and/or behavioral
expectations between two different cultural or social groups.
Regarding the Annotated Bibliography, please note that UOP
provides an example of that as well. Several sentences (brief
paragraph) which briefly summarizes the article or chapter as it
relates to the topic in question.
Week 5 Outline for Final
Project
A detailed outline, that is.
Resource: Center for Writing Excellence Sample Outline
Develop a 350- to 700-word outline for the Multiculturalism in the
News assignment due in Week Six.

paper.
Format your outline according to APA guidelines.
Week 6 Multiculturalism
in the News
Develop a 10- to 12-slide presentation that covers how to bring
awareness to the conflict presented in the news story from the Week
Four Learning Team assignment.

• An analysis of the social psychology and multicultural psychology aspects of the news story
• Clear application of the principles of social psychology or multicultural psychology in your plan
• The principles of multicultural psychology
