CVEN4405 Assessment Task 4: Group Research Project - Individual Report. Total Assessment Weight: 30% weighting

Course Learning Outcomes Assessed:

Background: Assessment Task 3 required groups of students, of 4 to 5, to identify an intersection or length of road in NSW which has a sizable crash problem. Groups are required to:

• investigate the location • understand the crash problem • hypothesise why the crash problem may be occurring, applying knowledge of HF principles

Activities for Assessment Task 4:

4. Propose potential countermeasure(s) to the crash problem. Given what you have found from your group activity, you will now, as individuals, consider how you might redesign the road and traffic environment in order to prevent or mitigate the Human Factors issues identified through the checklist activity.

5. Design a study to evaluate the impact of your potential countermeasure.

Based on information you will receive in Week 8, design a study that could be undertaken in order to determine the effectiveness of one of the proposed countermeasures in reducing the frequency and severity of the crash problem. Report (30%) – Due: by 11:59pm, Friday, 27th November 2020 (Week 11). NB There is a typographically error in the course outlines, that says AT4 is due “Friday, 29th November 2020 (Week 11)”. This is incorrect – it is due on Friday, 27th November 2020 (Week 11). Results and feedback: before Sunday, 13th December 2020. A 1,500-word individual report including a brief summary of Activities 1-3 (from AT3) and detailed account of Activities 4 and 5.

Suggested Structure for Individual Report The individual report should be set out under the following headings:

1. Project title 2. Project Group Members (including zID) 3. Aim(s) of Project 4. Desktop Crash Investigation of site 5. Applying the Human Factors Safety Assessment Checklist at the site

*For Section 6, please create a table as follows:

Human Factors Issues Proposed Countermeasure(s) Issue A Countermeasure(s) for Issue A Issue B Countermeasure(s) for Issue B Issue C Countermeasure(s) for Issue C

#For Section 7, the study can be a Descriptive, Experimental or an Evaluation study. You will need to specify which type of study you have chosen, and why, and including the following information:

• The aims of the study, including any hypothesises as to the expected outcome. • The participants (who, and how many). • The design of the study (including what is being measured, how it is being measured, where it

is being measured, i.e. location). • Equipment and materials. • The procedure – i.e. steps involved in conducting the study.
